Oak Ridge JH/HS Weekly Brief
Week 20 (1/31/25)
Mr. Collier's Thoughts
Mr. Collier
Week 20 is complete! What a busy week! We wrapped up the Scott-Miss HSGB tournament this week as Delta finished as the 2025 Champs. The teachers worked very hard to be flexible and adapt to students being out sick. We are working hard to keep the school clean, but it is flu season and flu A is running through OR Schools. Please wash your hands and stay home if you are feeling sick/have a fever. We look forward to returning full force Monday hopefully well rested and free from sickness. I want to thank all the JH/HS Parents that pick up your children. Thank you for being flexible with the pick up process, it has gone amazing and is much safer for everyone involved. I appreciate the patience and support! I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will see you Monday!
Thank you all and as I tell the students each day:
"Make good choices, wear your seatbelts, and tell your parents you love them!"

Things Mr. Collier Needs Help With
Oak Ridge is a community with a long standing tradition of taking care of one another. I am no different and sometimes I need help too. You will notice every week I will need help with certain things around the school and I am looking for leaders that want to help make a positive impact on Oak Ridge Schools!
- Kindness. Please speak with your student(s) about being kind and what it means to be respectful of others and any differences you may have with someone else. We want to encourage our students to treat everyone with respect including themselves.
- Bathroom Issues. Students, if you see people vandalizing school property in the bathrooms or horse playing in the bathrooms please let a teacher or Mr. Collier know immediately. Parents please speak with your child about bathroom behavior.
- Cell phone policy. The cell phone policy has not changed and we had very minimal issues last year! Great job students and teachers.
- Parking Lot Before School. I need everyone to come inside the school when you arrive on campus. A lot can happen in a parking lot and to mitigate risks we need students to park their car and immediately enter the school through the main entrance.
- ICU Missing Assignment Program. This year we will be implementing ICU. ICU stands for "Intensive Care Unit". Students with missing work that has been missing for more than 3 days will be placed on the ICU list. Coach Ward will be checking in with students on the ICU list and pulling students from elective courses if necessary. If a student remains on the list for more than 5 days administration may assign afterschool or before school tutoring.

IMPORTANT! Meal Payment Information!
Parents if you are paying meal accounts or any other fees for students at both buildings please write separate checks/cash. Student deposits will be made to student accounts on Fridays, unless we are out of school. Then it will be done on the last day of attendance for the week. Please be understanding if this process is slightly delayed some weeks. The building secretaries work diligently to get deposits in, but sometimes this process gets delayed due to outside circumstances. Thank you for your understanding.

Europe Trip Information from Mrs. Gholson
Dear families,
We’re going to France, Germany and the Alps in Summer 2026, and you’re invited!
We’re excited to tell you more about the trip we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: https://rsvp.eftours.com/av8m9wc
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
In this info session, we’ll talk about:
- How this opportunity will benefit your student
- What we’ll see and do on our trip
- Everything that’s included in this experience
- How your child can earn academic credit
- How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
- How to enroll on this trip (before it fills up!) during EF’s risk-free enrollment period
There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
Thanks,
Erin Gholson

Oak Ridge FFA Member Molly Hahs Shines as Beef Industry Speaking Contest Finalist
Oak Ridge FFA member and high school freshman Molly Hahs earned a spot as one of six finalists in the 2025 Beef Industry Speaking Contest. The competition was held at this year’s Missouri Cattle Industry & Trade Show. The event, in its 57th year, celebrates the next generation of leaders in agriculture. Tony Francis, contest judge, commented, "Best set of six speakers in the 12 year history of the contest."
Representing the Southeast District, Molly advanced to the finals by winning at both area and district contests. She was selected as one of the six finalists from a group of over 60 FFA members from around the state. Her speech, The Role of EIDs in the Cattle Industry, shared her journey in the cattle industry—a journey marked by dedication, responsibility, and growth. "I have lived the motto of getting a little better everyday. I know that success doesn’t come overnight; instead, it’s the result of countless hours of consistent effort and attention to detail. Thanks to my cattle, this discipline and patience has become a part of me. The cattle industry has been more than just showing cattle. It has been a journey of growth, responsibility, and dedication,” Molly explained during her speech.
Her journey has taught her life skills like animal care, record-keeping, and the importance of hard work. Molly reflected on the early mornings spent feeding and checking her cattle, and how those experiences instilled in her a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence.
The focus of Molly's speech was on the potential benefits and challenges of Electronic Identification (EID) tags in the cattle industry. EIDs, also known as 840 tags, are a technology used to track animal health, breeding, and movement histories. She highlighted how EIDs could streamline record-keeping and improve biosecurity in the show cattle world, but also acknowledged the challenges they present for small-scale operations like her family’s registered Angus farm.
“EID may streamline things for big operations, but it adds costs and complexity for the little guys,” Molly stated. She balanced her argument by presenting the advantages EIDs bring to the industry, particularly in disease traceability and maintaining market stability. She expressed hope that the technology could become more accessible and affordable for small-scale producers in the future.
Molly is the daughter of Ben and Megan Hahs, and she credits her family’s operation with inspiring her passion for the cattle industry. Her speech expressed both personal experience and thoughtful analysis, making her a strong advocate for producers of all sizes. Molly would like to thank the contest sponsors and the Missouri Cattlemen's Association for allowing her to share her speech with the organization. "I had a great time and was able to share my passion for the cattle industry," stated Molly.
