SAEBRS Assessment
October 11, 2024
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Strongsville City School District continues to create systems of academic and social-emotional support linked directly to the assessed needs of our students. This is carried out through the PBIS model, known as Strongsville PRIDE (Prepared, Respectful, Inclusive, Determined, Engaged) and our classroom guidance lessons. To complement the development of the PBIS model, we want to ensure that we provide all students with timely and targeted interventions based upon the results of universal screening tools in reading, math and behavior.
Universal screening helps school staff to determine which students may be academically or behaviorally “at risk.” The use of universal screenings refines and strengthens our efforts to help all of our students be successful by allowing us to take positive and preventative measures as early as possible. For several years we have used the universal screening tool of AIMSweb in math and reading to help us determine where students might have gaps in knowledge and need assistance. The behavior screening tool we will use this school year, Social, Academic and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS), focuses on academic, social and emotional behaviors of students. The SAEBRS is completed by the teacher and is available at your school for your review. The results of the tool will be used to provide identified students with mentoring, group counseling services, social skill building and other supports to help them engage positively in learning and socialization.
As with our academic universal screenings, you will be notified if your student is selected for participation in SAEBRS small groups. If your child is not identified as needing intervention, he/she will continue to receive the classwide guidance lessons already in place. Thank you for your willingness to assist Strongsville City School District in building a system of student emotional and behavioral supports that are linked directly to data. This will ensure that each of our students has the opportunity to receive the assistance they need to achieve academic and social-emotional success. Please contact me at 440-268-5445 or mmedlock@scsmustangs.org if you have questions or concerns about your child’s participation.
Sincerely,
Meghan Medlock
