David's view: Onward and Upward, Paying it Forward
Welcome!
Welcome back to those of you who are returning and welcome home to those of you who are joining us for the first time for the 2024-2025 season!
I don’t know about you, but I am still riding high from the excitement of this summer. From the Olympic trials to July champs and post-season meets, to the awesomeness of the Paris Olympics there was action everywhere! And the cherry on top was the announcement of Phase 2 and the build out of the second floor at NOVA Regency! As a staff, we see the opportunities this next phase and the new season for NOVA will bring, and we can’t wait to move onward and upward!
As we kick off this season and look to what the future will bring, you will see our staff holding strong to our core values, especially those of growth and unity, as now is the time to get focused and dig deep together.
To grow, we ask our swimmers to embrace the process – be committed to each lap in the pool, week in the water, splash in the competition pool, and time in a practice group. Swimmers create a foundation of experiences that will help them realize success in and out of the pool. By embracing the process, they will learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable and their struggles and personal effort will make them stronger and more prepared to realize their goals.
The phase two capital campaign Elevate, which supports the growth of our facility, will be transformative for our swimmers and what they will be able to experience. NOVA has a great tradition of paying it forward - allowing those of us today to benefit from the generosity of those who came before. Our unity in action, our attitude of “we before me” has taken NOVA to heights not realized by any other program in the country.
The time is now to move onward and upward and pay it forward!

Congratulations to Claire and TEAM USA!
Drylands Begin the Week of September 16th
NOVA is excited to begin another season of SwimStrong Dryland. This is a great way for swimmers to gain strength, stability and an edge over the competition.
Coach James Crabb will be running the 12 and under dryland program while the 13 and over groups will have their dryland run by the group's coaches.
This is an important aspect to our training and we look forward to seeing lots of strength gains this season, please look at the schedule below to see when your swimmer's group trains!
Fundraising 101
Every NOVA family is responsible for fundraising based on the number of swimmers and their levels in the program. First-year families have a fundraising obligation of $100 per swimmer. After that, each Novice level swimmer will be responsible for $125 of fundraising. Each swimmer above Novice level will be responsible for $225 of fundraising. No family will be required to fundraise more than $450. Additional fundraising and donations are welcome. Only donations above the annual family obligation are tax-deductible.
Many fundraising opportunities are available throughout the year, including the Swim-A-Thon in the Spring, Va Diner peanut sales in October, a percentage back from purchases of grocery and other gift cards through our scrip program, and more. Using a combination of these programs makes fundraising manageable for our families.
For more details about each of these options please contact the business office at 804-754-3401x2 or email novabusinessoffice@novaswim.org.
