Spirit Week - February 10-14 - Dress Up Each Day
Principal's Message
Hello Lincoln Community,
February is Here! Another cold week and next week is forecasted to be even colder. With icy morning conditions and the occasional chance for inclement weather, please take the time to be prepared and extra safe during your way to and from school, work, and whenever you're out. Don't forget to have your child bring warm clothes so it doesn't feel too cold during outside recess. Also, the month of February is Black History Month and in classrooms and at community time some of our instruction focuses on Black History.
Next Week: As a part of 28 Days of Kindness during this month of February, next week is Spirit Week. Each day we have a different dress up theme so we can all be in the Spirit.
- Monday: Animal Print
- Tuesday: Shine Bright
- Wednesday: Hat Day
- Thursday: Camo Day
- Friday: Pajama Day
We Thank You and the Woodburn Community for Prioritizing Staff Professional Development: On Monday this week (2/3) our Woodburn School District staff engaged in a day of professional development (PD). For Lincoln staff our learning included a focus on early-literacy (K-1), math instruction (2-3), and Bridging (4-5). We started another round of Core Data review to inform our instructional decisions for literacy. Additionally, various Lincoln staff did other job-specific PD and participated in job-alike professional teams, as well as other learning.
Sent - Report Cards - Second Quarter: We have now sent and you should have received your student's second quarter report cards. If you didn't receive your child's report card in the mail, please contact our office. These are important communications we send four times a year to keep you informed on how your student is progressing.
Questions: As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org.
Go Dolphins!
Sincerely,
Teresa Alfaro - Principal
Peter McDougal - Assistant Principal

Student Safety is our Highest Priority
Pedestrian Safety Tips When Coming To School and Going Home
Multiple times each year we instruct and remind our students about safety on buses and during the arrival and dismissal process. We also stress the importance of being careful and safe when traveling to and from school and any time when we're out in the community. Here are some of the important points to keep in mind.
- Walking: Using identified walking paths, obeying all traffic laws/signals, being aware of surroundings, wearing clothes that make you easily seen by cars, share your walking path with your parents so they know, keep eyes and ears open.
- Biking: Making sure bike is correctly functioning as intended (brakes, reflectors, etc.), make sure you have proper safety gear, obey all traffic laws/signals, be aware of your surroundings, wear clothes that make you easily visible, keep eyes and ears open, use lighting at night, share your path with your parents so they know.
- Rail Safety: Only cross at designated areas, keep eyes and ears open, be aware of your surroundings, follow all traffic laws/signals.
When Picking Up Your Student(s)
Please follow our designated traffic patterns. Here are some guidelines:
- Unless you're in an actual parking spot, be sure to stay in your vehicle.
- Similar to at an airport, we can't have unattended vehicles in the driving lanes (this includes the French Prairie MS parking lot too).
- Follow staff directions.
- Pull up to the forward-most pick up spot.
- Take care to always be vigilant when pulling out after picking up your student.
Celebrating our School Counselors
Ms. Castañeda and Ms. Ochoa
This week (February 3-7) is National School Counselors week. Here at Lincoln we have two amazing school counselors, Ms. Catañeda and Ms. Ochoa who lead community meeting, teach guidance lessons, meet with students individually and in groups, and do many other things to help support our students success.
School counselors are highly educated professionals who help students succeed in school and think about their choices and their future. An integral part of the our education system, school counselors help students form healthy goals, mindsets and behaviors. With the aid of a school counselor, students learn to develop effective collaboration and cooperation skills, to practice perseverance, to develop time management and study skills, and to learn self-motivation and self-direction habits.

Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance
This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.
Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!
So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
