Growing a Garden!
Week of May 19th
Dear Duval Families!
Just 4 weeks to go until summer vacation! And so much to do before then!
What a wonderful Night of the Arts last week! Over 400 pieces of art, Mrs. Brown's cool scavenger hunt, the band performance and the chorus concert all made for a great night celebrating the importance of the arts at Duval! Many thanks Mrs. Brown, Ms. Lauzier, and Mrs. Alosa!
We have a few things planned this week where the weather may be a factor. As much as we can, we are trying to keep them going, but will update everyone if plans change. The big event is the Book Fair and Family Night on Wednesday. Hope to see LOTS of folks for this very special evening!
Many thanks again to the PTO for all of the MCAS snacks! The last MCAS is 5th grade Science tomorrow, Monday the 19th. We're very proud of the hard work and care that our students brought to these annual exams!
To help with end of year planning, we've added events all the way through the last day on this newsletter proper.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Dr. Marcus and Ms. Craig

Important Info
Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is this week May 19–May 22. Our students are excited to shop for their own books and every purchase at the Fair benefits our school! For more info, visit https://scholastic.com/bf/johnduvalelementaryschool.
Duval Game Day - May 22
This Thursday (pending rain), Duval will host its first ever Duval Game Day. This is a school specific, Special Olympics type event. Game Day brings together students with and without disabilities through sports. This amazing inclusion program teaches all students teamwork, a mutual respect for those who bring different talents and abilities to a team, and helps foster a spirit of acceptance and inclusion within the school. We are very excited for our first year trying out this event at Duval!
FUN DAY! June 5th!
Fun Day this year is a joint project with the staff Theme Team and the PTO. Students will be participating in over 30 different events for which they'll earn tickets to see which Pod will win the Gold Medal! New events like Monster Truck rally, Drip Drip Drop, Stomp Rockets, and Knock Hockey will be added to favorites like the inflatable obstacle course and dunk tank.
To make it truly awesome, we're going to need lots of volunteers! Even if you can only do an hour or so, we'd love to have you, and your kids would LOVE to see you there! PTO is sending out the sign ups by the end of this week.
Safety and Traffic Notes
We've put up some additional signs recently, but as a reminder, there is NO PASSING during drop-off and pick-up, and the back of the building is only for kids and school staff during the day.
With warmer weather, a reminder that all students commuting on wheels MUST have a helmet on as per Mass General Laws. Also, no e-scooters please.
If kids want to come back to play, they MUST wait until 3:30pm, AFTER dismissal is fully over.
