Dear Families,

We want to thank all of you for thinking of us during Teacher Appreciation Week this week. Our PTO, Friends of Wiggin Street, is always so kind to organize food for the week and the cards students made were so sweet! Also, Xtreme Air paid for the Hello Lemon food truck to provide drinks and donuts for all Mount Vernon City Schools one day this week in collaboration with Knox Foodies. We are lucky to work in such a supportive community!

Some of you may have noticed a new face in the office or heard a new voice on the phone at Wiggin Street lately. As we prepare to say goodbye to Anne Phillips as she retires at the end of this school year, we also welcome a new chapter for Wiggin Street.

Anne has been the heart of our school—her dedication, warmth, and commitment have kept things running smoothly day after day. More than that, she has been a trusted colleague and a dear friend. Her presence will be deeply missed by our entire staff and school community.

We are fortunate to welcome Alicia Higgins as our new secretary. Alicia is already a familiar face at Wiggin Street, as the parent of Amelia, a second grader. Both Alicia and her son, Austin, are proud alumni of Wiggin Street, and we are thrilled to have her return in this new role. Alicia, along with her husband Russell, Austin, and Amelia, are pictured below in this update.

Alicia has spent this week training with Anne and will return in June to continue preparing before officially beginning her position in August. Please join me in giving Alicia a warm welcome!

It has been a busy and exciting week for Mrs. Springer and all of our students! I cannot say enough good things about the incredible K–2 Musicals on Tuesday evening and the Talent Show on Wednesday. Wiggin Street students continue to amaze us with their creativity, confidence, and talent. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Springer for her dedication and countless hours of preparation to help our students shine so brightly!

Looking ahead, our fifth-grade students will be heading to Heartland Camp next Tuesday, joining their peers from Pleasant Street Elementary. This outdoor adventure is a wonderful opportunity for fun, connection, and making new friends as they prepare for the transition to Mount Vernon Middle School. They will also have a visit on Monday from MVMS Principal, Darin Prince, and Guidance Counselor, Kris Tier, to learn more about what to expect at the middle school.

Next week, our 3-5th grade students will be taking their learning on the road with several field trips planned:

  • Fifth Grade will head to Heartland Camp on Tuesday with students from Pleasant Street Elementary. This outdoor day is a wonderful opportunity to build friendships before the transition to Mount Vernon Middle School.

  • Fourth Grade will visit the Ohio Statehouse on Wednesday, exploring history and government first-hand.

  • Third Grade will take their Mount Vernon History and Community Services Field Trip on Friday, gaining insight into the people and places that shape our local community.

  • Meanwhile, Fifth Grade will also travel to the Columbus Museum of Art on Friday with Mrs. Biggerstaff and the 5th grade team, enriching their appreciation for the arts.

What a fantastic week of meaningful learning experiences outside of the classroom!

Happy Mother's Day!

Best wishes,

Christy Grandstaff

2025-26 Class Lists and Teacher Requests 2025-26 Class Lists and Teacher Requests

A lot goes into creating class lists. Teachers meet with the next grade level as well as other staff that work closely with the grade level to make sure the classes are well balanced. Students' academic levels and Social Emotional needs are just a couple of ways that teachers look at to balance the classes. This continues into the summer as we are made aware of new enrollment. For these reasons, we feel it is important to wait till August to share the final lists.

If you have an educational reason for a teacher request, please submit it in writing via email to myself at cgrandstaff@mvcsd.us by May 1st, 2024. Also, if you know your child will not be attending next year, please let us know.
