Kimberlyn Sorvaag, LCSW

Lakeside Counseling

As a therapist, I believe in a collaborative journey toward healing and growth, meeting my clients exactly where they are in their unique experiences. Through a compassionate and client-centered approach, I strive to create a safe space for exploration and empowerment, fostering resilience and meaningful change together. Let's embark on this journey of self-discovery and transformation, side by side.

Recognizing that no therapy approach fits all, I prioritize the foundational stage of building a strong therapeutic relationship. This phase allows for a deep understanding of your unique challenges and aspirations. During our sessions, you can expect a tailored blend of approaches aimed at supporting your journey towards growth and fulfillment.

Tiffany Michaud, M.S., LPC

Connection Therapy and Wellness

Hello! I'm Tiffany Michaud, a licensed therapist passionate about helping others thrive, and the founder of Connection Therapy & Wellness.

With over 15 years of experience as a counselor, I have had the privilege of supporting children, adolescents, and adults through life’s challenges. My background in school and mental health counseling has given me a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs across all stages of life. I am commited to helping clients develop meaningful connections, build resilience, and lead fulfilling lives.

At the heart of my therapeutic practice lies connection—both the connection between therapist and client and the deeper connection within oneself. I use an integrative and holistic approach, blending evidence-based techniques with an emphasis on building trust and safety. Therapy isn’t just about solving problems; it’s about creating a space to explore, understand, and nurture your inner world.

We have formed a new partnership with Western Wisconsin Music in Medicine. They are already coming in to our schools to work with students one-on-one. We are now partnering with them to have them run Calmer Kidz Groups and The Listening Program.

The Calmer Kidz Groups will be done at Stillson Elementary and Parkview Elementary. Calmer Kidz is a uniquely engaging program using music, rhythm, and movement to empower students in processing difficult emotions and stressors calmly.

The Calmer Kidz course integrates music therapy and yoga movement practices specifically designed to aid in self-regulation by therapists and certified professionals.

The Listening Program is a neuroscience-based music listening therapy created to help you achieve optimal brain health. It involves listening to acoustically modified music, personalized to improve your brain performance, at any age or level of ability, in as little as 15 minutes per day.

CLICK HERE to access the modules.

This is a free, online, on-demand system consisting of three primary components. Through this system, learners will understand the prevalence and impact of toxic stress on youth and those who care for them. Additionally, participants will understand how to infuse the values of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment into various aspects of their existing equitable multi-level system of support. This infusion is what we call the trauma-informed lens.

The learning system is broken into Universal and Tier II and III modules. For each module set, you will find:

  • Foundations: These modules are meant to be viewed first and in order. They set the stage for the important prerequisite knowledge and skills needed before engaging in other individual strategies.
  • Strategies and Practices: These modules provide concrete ways to use the trauma-informed lens for various aspects of practice including social and emotional learning, self-regulation, relationship building and cognitive problem-solving. These modules can be viewed in any order, though we recommend the listed order.
  • Systems & Policy Approaches: Finally, these modules focus on the systems and policy changes that are necessary to fully implement and sustain a TSS. They support areas such as school-wide behavior supports, discipline, and family engagement.

At the end of every module, learners will have the ability to email a certificate of completion to a staff person of their choosing. Length of the modules varies based on both topic and individual factors of the learner. View the average length of time for each module.

Mental Health Supports Available in our district Mental Health Supports Available in our district

Who is coming into our buildings?

As a district we partner with multiple agencies, therapists, and other clinicians to come into our buildings to work with our students!

School Based Mental Health: This is location specific. Our therapists and clinicians work with our students for traditional therapy, eco-therapy, music therapy, art therapy, play-based therapy, etc. They also come in for behavior skills, trauma informed practices, peer mentorship, and a variety of other supports. These supports may have been set up through the school, the family, or the county and have a variety of ways they are paid for.

Student and Family Assistance Program: This is pay source specific. Our district pays for 4 free counseling sessions AND EITHER 4 free parent coaching or 4 free youth coaching sessions for every family in the district (4K-12th grade). That means every student or their family members have access to free mental health support. This is 4 free PER FAMILY to use. They can choose to use these sessions at school, at home (parent or youth coaching), or at the agency location.

Interconnected Systems Framework: This is for all of our as-needed mental health supports. We pay therapists and other clinicians to come in and offer co-facilitated small groups, professional development for staff, consultation for staff (WHICH IS AVAILABLE TO ALL STAFF), for them to sit in on team meetings, crisis support, and much more!

How to Refer a Student for Mental Health Supports How to Refer a Student for Mental Health Supports

How to Refer a Student for School Based Mental Health

The referral process to refer a student for School Based Mental Health (SBMH) services or to the Student and Family Assistance Program (SFAP) has been revamped recently. We would like to share the updated Referral Process Flow Charts along with the new Staff Member Referral Form which is now a Google Form. This information can be found on the cardinalcare.info website and is located under Staff Resources.

An important step in the staff referral process is to connect with Pupil Services staff in your building to have a discussion before making the referral.

All Parent and Youth Coaching referrals should also be communicated with Pupil Services staff in your building and that information can be emailed to Shannon Larson at larsonsr@chipfalls.org OR mentalhealthnav@chipfalls.org. You do not need to complete the Staff Member Referral Form to refer to Parent or Youth Coaching.

The Staff Member Referral Form can be found HERE.

Shaping Destiny: Overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) by Building Youth Resilience

Short film on youth resilience features Chippewa Valley places and faces

A local mental health coalition created a short film about youth mental health and resilience, featuring many Chippewa Valley residents and produced by an Emmy Award-winning creative duo.

The film, titled “Shaping Destiny,” takes a close, sensitive look at how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) impact kids’ mental health and how youth can build resilience.

“Shaping Destiny” features 22 Chippewa Valley residents, including adults, youth-serving professionals, and youth. Viewers will hear firsthand personal testimony from adults who have overcome adversity that happened during their childhoods – and hear what local youth have to say in lively unscripted conversations.

The Mental Health Matters Coalition was a group of more than 20 partnering organizations in Eau Claire and Chippewa counties. It worked to support and improve youth mental health in the Chippewa Valley. The coalition hopes the short film will be an insightful training tool for everyone in our community, but especially professionals who work with kids – teachers, medical professionals, coaches, counselors, social workers, and more.

According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), 32% of youth in Eau Claire County and 28% of youth in Chippewa County felt so sad or hopeless almost every day for two or more weeks in a row that they stopped doing some usual activities. The survey also found that only 22% of youth in Eau Claire County and 21% of youth in Chippewa County get emotional support when needed, most of the time or always.

The coalition decided to make the film after designing a two-hour workshop about building youth resilience and overcoming ACEs. The workshop was so popular that in 2022, the coalition worked with local creative duo Story Time with Steve & Micah to create a condensed, 30-minute film inspired by the workshop.
