Dear Monomoy Middle School Families,
One of the things I value most about Monomoy is the strong sense of community that lives in our halls each day. This week was a beautiful reminder of that, as we celebrated our Special Olympics event, where we lined the halls with posters and cheer to rally around our student athletes. I’d also like to recognize our 5th graders for their hard work and focus during the science MCAS, and to thank the rest of our students for showing kindness and consideration by keeping the building quiet in support of their peers. Finally, I want to extend my gratitude to all the students, staff, families, and community members who continue to support our schools through local processes. Your involvement and advocacy help make Monomoy a special place.
Please don't forget about our upcoming MCAS exams:
- Math MCAS (all grades) on May 20–21
In partnership,
Abby Dudley
Principal
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Reminder-Appropriate Chromebook Use and Care: There is a troubling social media trend encouraging students to intentionally damage their school-issued Chromebooks by forcing metal objects such as paper clips, push pins, or pencil graphite into a port on the device. Not only can this destroy the device, but it also has the potential to create a safety hazard in the form of fire, smoke, and injury to students and staff. Any student who engages in this activity will face disciplinary consequences, and the family will be charged the full cost of a replacement device, as the damage is unnecessary. Please take a moment to talk with your child about this issue and reinforce the importance of using school equipment safely and appropriately.
MRMS Grading Practices - Family Survey: We are up to 74 responses on our grading survey. We will have this open for 2 more weeks and could love to hear from you as we look to norm grading practice across the building, increase transparency, and improve communication with families and caregivers.
Health Class Fundraiser: On Saturday May 17, MRMS students in Ms. Thompson's health and seminar classes will be showcasing their work and holding a raffle to support funding for our classroom "health shelf" and extra local excursions. We will be at Chatham Village Market between 10am-2pm. Please stop by to support the kids and our programs!
7th Grade Pathways (for 6th grade families): This year was our initial year for our 7th grade pathways program and it has been a success with high engagement due to student choice. We will begin talking to 6th graders about their 7th grade pathway classes this week. Students have the option to choose Language, Music, or Advanced STEM for their pathways. There are also opportunities for students to receive academic support or reading services. If you would like input in your student's choice, we recommend discussing this with them ahead of forecasting which will happen the week of May 26th.
OLD NEWS AND REMINDERS!
Arrivals After 8:45: Students who arrive after 8:45, should be dropped at the front door and need to sign into the office. We will be closing the side doors at 8:45 in the mornings to help make our morning routine smoother. Thanks!
