Welcome Back - April 19th

Welcome back! I hope Spring Break was restful and memorable. I also hope you are ready for another round of learning! We look forward to seeing our Stars return.

Two reminders:

On Monday, we welcome back additional students. Families that completed the commitment form for in-person learning should read ALL information in the newsletter.

Also, if you traveled during break please see the new guidance from the CA department of health. According to the new guidance, fully vaccinated Californians:

  • can travel safely within the United States and California
  • should follow CDC travel guidance
  • do not need to test or quarantine before or after travel unless they have COVID-19 symptoms

The guidance also notes that non-vaccinated Californians should avoid non-essential travel outside California, and if they do travel out of state they should:

  • get tested 1-3 days before travel
  • get tested again 3-5 days after arriving at their destination
  • self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel (even if test is negative)

Arab American History Month

zoom_out_map

April is Arab American Heritage Month

"National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM) is a time for celebrating the history, contributions, and culture of the diverse population of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage.

Daily Screening and Hygiene Practice

As shared by Supt. Scuderi, we are in the Orange tier, and while bi-weekly testing is no longer mandatory, it is highly recommended. We will continue to test Wednesday through Sunday at Ruby Bridges. In preparing for each school day, please remember the following:

  • Complete the Covid daily screener (5 questions) prior to entering campus. PLEASE complete at home prior to arrival. It is sent to your email each morning.
  • Students will be screened as they arrive (for drive ups and walk ins). Please do NOT leave your child without ensuring daily screener has been completed.
  • All students must arrive with a mask or approved nose/mouth covering and wear the duration of the time on campus.
  • NO parking along the drop off zone/curb. Make sure to park at the very end of our parking lot or in the neighborhood for a smooth arrival.
  • We are asking families to feed students prior to arrival at school. Lunch will be handed out at dismissal for students included in the lunch count.
  • If your child is symptomatic, you will be called to immediately pick up student and directed with next steps. Students will wait in the isolation room.
  • Remember social distancing at all times. All of those on campus MUST be masked.
  • Practice hand washing with your Star.

Covid 19 Symptoms and Allergies

If your student is showing symptoms related to Covid 19, an adult will be contacted to pick up the student. If your student has seasonal allergies, please get a doctor’s note indicating this diagnosis. Any reoccurring symptom your child may encounter regularly should be documented by your medical provider. Having a diagnosis in your student’s medical records will help as we monitor students on campus for COVID symptoms.

Here is the AUSD form: Certification of Chronic Conditions.

April Life Skill- Self Control

"Self-control has been defined in many ways: as willpower, self-discipline, or conscientiousness. But however you define it, self-control is about being able to regulate yourself."

This month we are learning about Self-control.

Toolbox for April

Throughout April we will focus on the following Toolbox Tool.

Courage tool: I have the courage to do the right thing. Courage is doing the right thing, even when it's hard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq4qmH-FQN8

Our tools help us deal with our feelings and emotions in manageable ways. Ask our Stars about the tools.

4 Be's

Ruby Bridges students, faculty, and families believe all students can be STARS by following the 4Bs ! Following the AUSD Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) system, we strive to: Be Safe, Responsible, Respectful, and a Friend. These expectations are taught, modeled, learned, and practiced at Ruby Bridges.

Zoom Safety

  • Please don’t interrupt your child unless s/he needs some help during class.
  • Please be aware that loud background noise - such as music, appliances, conversations or arguments - can be distracting not only to your own child but to the teacher and other students in the class.
  • Please watch your language! Please remember that the camera picks up what’s happening in the room where your child is working. As such, we ask that:
  • You be fully clothed while your child is online.
  • You avoid distracting behavior, such as dancing, cleaning, exercising, or eating.
  • Please do not try to lead or teach in breakout rooms unless you have gone through our volunteer vetting process and are working directly with the teacher to support the class.
  • If possible, please try to find a space where your child can work away from distractions and interruptions and possibly where the camera faces a wall.
