Mr. Sloop's Comet Connection
"Igniting Minds for a Brighter Tomorrow"

2026-2027 October Edition
Hello, Comet Families,
We are officially finished with the first quarter of the school year and are moving into the exciting second quarter. We hope you were all able to set-up a fall conference for each of your children with their teachers! It is a great time to get to know your child's teacher better, but, most importantly, find out how your child has started the year academically, socially, and behaviorally. Remember that your child's teacher is always your first point of contact to find out how things are going for your child, to share concerns, and to ask questions.
We hope you all have a nice long weekend and we are looking forward to a strong finish to October. As we move into the cooler temperatures, please make sure you write your child's name in their jackets. Fall weather means jackets and hoodies in the mornings and then warm afternoon temperatures mean lots of jackets get left on the playground and in classrooms and hallways. If your child's name is on their jackets, hoodies, water bottles, etc., then it is much easier to make sure they get them back when things get lost.
Thanks for keeping up with all these important dates and reminders by reading our Comet Connection!!

We do this recognition for our students each month through our Shining Star celebrations and Shuttle recognitions,. Please join us in congratulating these Silver City staff members each month!
Congratulations to our September Staff Member of the Month -
Heather Honea-3rd grade Teacher & Team Leader
Heather always makes sure you are "good to go." She is willing to share anything she's made or worked hard on so you are prepared ahead of time. She is always kind and a joy to be around. I'm proud to be on a team with her and to have her as our 3rd grade team leader. She's a great role model and a wonderful teacher. She is very deserving of this month's Staff Member of the Month-

Volunteers and Lunch Visitors!
Volunteer at Silver City!
If you are interested in volunteering at the school, please follow the link below to watch the mandated reporter videos and complete the volunteer agreement.
https://volunteer.forsythpartnerconnect.org/agency/detail/?agency_id=173434
Visitors at Lunch:
Parents and family members of students may eat lunch with their child as long as they are a "cleared" visitor for that child. When family members visit students at lunch, they may ONLY eat with their child(ren) at the parent tables in the cafeteria . We do not allow friends or other students to sit with a child and their parent/family members at the parent tables because 1) we do not know if the other child's parent has given their child permission to sit with you and 2) we do not have enough space at the parent tables to accommodate students other than your own children to join you.
All visitors and volunteers MUST have a valid picture ID to enter ANY Forsyth County School for safety and security reasons. Thank you for understanding!!
