Comfort or Fulfillment? A Mid-Year Reality Check Comfort or Fulfillment? A Mid-Year Reality Check

As we reach the halfway point of the year, June offers a natural opportunity to pause and reflect. Between graduations, Father's Day, the first day of summer, and celebrations of freedom and new beginnings, this season reminds us that growth often begins with taking stock of where we are and deciding where we want to go next. Yet for many professionals, 2026 has brought continued uncertainty through layoffs, restructuring, and shifting workplace expectations. It raises an important question: Are you truly fulfilled in your career, or have you simply become comfortable with what's familiar? Sometimes the biggest risk isn't exploring something new. It's spending years settling for less than what you really want. This month, I invite you to challenge assumptions, stay open-minded, and consider what opportunities might exist beyond the traditional career path.

All my best!

As more professionals explore alternatives to traditional employment, stories like Dan Holman's remind us what is possible when we remain open to new opportunities.

When Dan and his wife welcomed their second daughter, he began asking questions many professionals eventually face: Was his engineering career providing the flexibility, income potential, and future he envisioned for his family? Rather than accepting the status quo, Dan chose to explore his options through Career Ownership Coaching™.

Through the discovery process, Dan evaluated different paths, gained clarity on what mattered most, and ultimately pursued business ownership through a franchise model that aligned with his strengths and goals. Today, he is the owner of House Doctors of Northern Colorado, leading a growing team and building a business designed around the future he wanted to create.

What stands out most about Dan's journey is his willingness to stay open-minded and intentional throughout the process. He addressed funding early, completed his due diligence, and made decisions based on facts rather than assumptions. While balancing a full-time career and launching a business came with challenges, his commitment to growth helped him move forward with confidence.

🎧 Watch Dan's full interview and hear his story firsthand.

If you've been questioning what's next in your career or wondering whether there may be another path worth exploring, let's connect. Sometimes the first step is simply being curious enough to explore the possibilities.

Made 4 More Mondays – Did You Miss It? Made 4 More Mondays – Did You Miss It?

Every Monday, I share a short Made 4 More message designed to challenge how we think about career, comfort, and the choices that shape our future.

One that sparked a lot of conversation recently was Hold the Line. The message centered around a reality I see often in my coaching practice: most people don't abandon their bigger goals because they stop wanting them. They abandon them because something easier comes along. A new job opportunity, a promotion, or a familiar path can provide short-term relief, but it can also pull attention away from the future they originally wanted to create.

The challenge isn't deciding whether a new opportunity is good or bad. It's asking whether it truly aligns with your long-term vision. Sometimes the easiest choice is not the one that moves us closer to greater fulfillment, flexibility, wealth, or purpose. Progress requires staying connected to the bigger picture, even when distractions appear along the way.

I post Made 4 More Mondays every week. If you missed this one, you can catch it and others on my YouTube channel.

The Shift Toward Business Ownership Continues The Shift Toward Business Ownership Continues

A recent report from Guidant Financial highlights a major shift happening across the business landscape in 2026. More professionals are rethinking traditional employment and exploring business ownership as a path toward greater control, flexibility, and long-term financial growth. Many are no longer viewing entrepreneurship as a risky last resort, but instead as a strategic career move and long-term investment.

One of the biggest trends is the changing age demographics of business owners. Gen X now represents nearly half of all small business owners at 49%, while Millennials saw a 25% increase in ownership share this year alone and now account for 21% of business owners. At the same time, Baby Boomers continue stepping away from ownership, creating opportunities for the next generation of entrepreneurs to step in.

The report also reinforces something many professionals are already feeling: corporate stability is no longer guaranteed. Frustration with corporate structures, layoffs, burnout, and the desire for greater independence continue driving people toward entrepreneurship. More individuals are pursuing ownership not only for income, but to create long-term wealth, flexibility, and something meaningful they can potentially pass on to future generations.

There are also interesting shifts in who is entering business ownership. Women now account for 25% of small business owners, while many professionals over 50 are choosing entrepreneurship instead of traditional retirement. In previous Guidant studies, entrepreneurs over 50 reported some of the highest satisfaction levels among business owners, with many pursuing ownership for freedom, flexibility, and personal fulfillment after decades in corporate careers.

What’s especially important is that many of today’s entrepreneurs are not starting from scratch. Increasingly, professionals are exploring franchise models, acquisitions, and businesses with proven systems already in place. This allows many first-time owners to step into entrepreneurship with support, infrastructure, and scalability already built into the model.

For anyone feeling uncertain about their current career path or wondering what else may be possible, these trends reinforce an important reality: business ownership is no longer reserved for lifelong entrepreneurs. More experienced professionals, parents, corporate leaders, and even retirees are exploring ownership as a way to create greater control over their future.
