Livonia PTSA Council Courier
September 2025
Welcome Back Staff, Students and Families!
MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
School has started and we're getting back into the swing of things. Now is the time to start figuring out how to implement all those great ideas on how to gain and increase membership. Maybe you have a PTA/PTSA table at your open house. Maybe have a QR code to direct members right to your Givebacks store to purchase a membership while they are there. Maybe you have an incentive to offer members. There are so many options that can be done. The first time families walk into the school in a perfect time to gain those memberships, encourage volunteers, and really get families, students, staff, and everyone excited about this school year!
There are a few things to remember. Your annual Livonia PTSA Council membership dues are due no later than October 28th. Please mail or deliver your forms to the correct address on the form (pdf attached). Please DO NOT send your dues to Central Office. Also, your unit is to remit their state dues to Michigan PTA by the 28th of every month for all members who were new that month. This information can be found on Givebacks.

COUNCIL'S UNIT SPOTLIGHT
Buchanan Elementary
The 2025–2026 school year is off to a fast start, and our PTA is excited for what’s ahead. After a quick summer, we’re diving right into a busy fall full of activities that bring our community together and support our school. We know many of you are also juggling events this season, and it’s always inspiring to see the different ways PTAs across the district engage families and raise funds. For us, the next couple of months include some of our biggest traditions: our annual Color Run fundraiser, the Fall Book Fair, a Fall Photo Fundraiser, and our community-favorite Boo Bash Trunk-or-Treat. These events not only raise vital funds for school programs but also create lasting memories for students and families. We’re looking forward to a successful fall and are excited to learn from and celebrate the work each of you is doing at your schools as well. Here’s to a strong start to the year for all of us!
Coolidge Elementary
We enjoyed hosting three different meet-ups for Coolidge families at Beverly Park with snacks. It was very fun to catch up at our community park over the summer. We passed out PTA information as part of our kindergarten teams “scavenger hunt” for back to school. We “stocked the fridge” the week staff came back with beverages and snacks to give everyone a sugar rush! We also “chalked the walk” and had some very talented artists leave our kids and staff some fantastic pictures and messages for the school year. Our families enjoyed posing at our “Welcome Back” sign for the first day of school. We have already kicked off our Fall fundraiser, MUMS from Schwartz Greenhouse.
Cooper Upper Elementary
Just like that we are back!!!! NEW SCHOOL YEAR! NEW COOPER COLTS!
We hope everyone had an amazing summer. Cooper started the school year with chalk the walk and made the sidewalks fun for the students to walk in for the first day!
We wanted to start the year off with letting the staff know how much we truly appreciate them and are excited to support them in different ways this year. We found these cute cups and put sticky notes and pens inside and included a bookmark!
First week in and we already had our first assembly promoting Cooper's FIRST EVER Color Run! This will be our biggest fundraiser of the year! We broke it down to the students on what every $2,000 will give them with adding colors on! Mr. Witherspoon even had the kiddos do some math and if everyone brings in $20 we would hit our goal of $12,000. We will also be having prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners who bring in the most donations as well as top three classes will get a prize.
Emerson Middle
Kennedy Elementary
The Kennedy Elementary Board started gearing up for the school year back in July with a dinner at our president’s house. We welcomed our newest board members and delegated tasks to get everything ready for the 2025-2026 school year. Our board is really looking forward to all the fun we have planned.
Our Kennedy PTA hoped to host two playground meet-ups over the summer, but only ended up hosting one due to inclement weather. It ended up being a great turnout and the families who attended had a great time.
Kennedy’s PTA also hosted a yummy luncheon of Chipotle during staff’s first week back and it was very appreciated and a hit.
The two new basketball hoops the Kennedy PTA helped purchase during the 2024-2025 school year were added to our playground over the summer. The students already love playing with them during recess.
To get ready for back-to-school, our PTA hosted our annual Chalk-the-Walk the Sunday before the first day of school. Parents and students alike wrote encouraging messages and drew fun pictures to help welcome everyone back.
Kennedy’s PTA also supplied grade level banners for the first day of school and they always provide wonderful photo ops and get the students excited for the upcoming school year.
To help encourage people to become members of our school’s PTA, we are offering a fun contest for those who sign-up before our first PTA meeting and attend it as well. A drawing will be held with a gift card as the prize as a special thank you for supporting Kennedy’s PTA.
Overall, the summer and couple weeks back-to-school in August were full of fun, and we are looking forward to a wonderful school year ahead.
