WELCOME to Coronado 2026-27!
Back-to-School 🍎 August 2026
Welcome Letter from Mr. Piccininni
Cougars:
As we embark on another year together, I challenge everyone to remember the things that have come to define Coronado High School, over time, as one of the finest high schools anywhere. Coronado’s traditions extend beyond normal school functions, more often our core characteristics are aligned with the culture of achievement and success. Students and families routinely perform at the highest levels, when the stakes are greatest, despite obstacles or restrictions. With the ongoing challenges facing us now, and into the foreseeable future, we will need to embody this more than ever. I have no doubt we will be at our finest, across all disciplines, creating perhaps one of our best years yet. While it will be challenging, I know we will overcome, persevere, and proceed forward without hesitation. It’s proven over the years to be the only way our students know how to go… forward.
Every year I share the thoughts below as statements that set the tone. When I re-read them, especially within the context of the times, they seem to be timeless and more appropriate than ever….
- When you’re not here we miss you. While it may not be perfect, our family is our family, which we love and protect above all else. When you’re gone, it’s just not the same.
- I understand the feeling of being run down, tired, and beaten up that we all feel at times. You carry that weight with exceptional grace, dignity, and professionalism. When times are toughest, we are always at our best.
- I admire our students and faculty and am so unbelievably proud of the work you do… often in the face of great challenges. There is no question in my mind that no group does it better anywhere.
- This upcoming year, we will be more prepared, more driven, and more capable than ever. We constantly continue to grow academically, athletically, and in our co-curricular adventures. Each of us contributes individually in our way… and accordingly, our group gets stronger.
I’m so proud to be a part of Coronado. I hope each of you loves our school as much as I do.
Our school and students continue to lead the way and set the standard for Clark County. We strive, every year, to be even better and more focused on achieving, not on our competitors. As we focus on ourselves, and on the standards we set, we will define our achievement in every way and continue to set the bar for others to chase. This year, as we have in the past, we will raise that bar.
Cougars… together,
Mr. Piccininni

Three Back to School Tips for Parents of Teens by CASEL
1. Stay connected. Feeling connected, loved, and supported can help your child return to school with more confidence. For example:
â—Ź Make extra time to connect with your child as the new school year starts.
â—Ź Create a simple daily routine, like eating a snack together or sharing one good thing about your day over dinner or at bedtime.
● Invite your child to share how they’re feeling about going back to school–and listen!
â—Ź Share some of your own favorite memories from school.
● Check your own emotions, which can impact how children feel. Model calmness and share what you’re looking forward to.
2. Help them make a plan and problem-solve. Talk to your child about how the school day will go so they know what to expect every step of the way. Feeling more prepared will also help them feel more confident. If problems arise, listen to your child and help them brainstorm solutions.
● Involve your child in making a plan for school days, from how they’ll get ready to what will happen after school. For older children, also make a homework plan.
● Make time to listen to your child about how school is going and how they’re feeling about friends and teachers.
â—Ź Empower them to solve problems with open-ended questions like:
â—‹ Why do you think that happened?
â—‹ How might you do this differently next time?
○ What could you do to make the situation better? What do you think will happen if…?
â—‹ Have you ever seen a problem like this before? If so, how did you solve it?
3. Keep communication lines open. Positive partnerships between families and schools improve children’s academic achievement, social competencies, and emotional well-being.
● Let your child’s teacher know that you want to partner with them and play a role in your child’s education. Share your contact information and the best way to reach you.
● Share any important information you want your child’s teacher to know about them.
● Ask what you can do at home to support the social, emotional, and academic development that’s happening at school.
