Hello Centerview families!

We are rolling through week three with a lot of GUSTO! We love to see the kiddos running in with smiles each day. Yes, we’ve got some little people still adjusting, and we are responsive to their needs, too!

Tomorrow, join us for our Passport for Learning Event at Centerview Elementary, 5-7 p.m. Come one, come all! This is a night for families to travel through Centerview with your student to guide you through our curricular resources and experience a day in their life. Collect stamps as you visit each learning studio. Our students should turn in their passport at the end of their evening visit for a chance to win a couple of RAZOR scooters to zip around the neighborhood on. We look forward to seeing everyone!

On another note, the first Centerview pulse check of the year is tomorrow, Thursday. Once again this year, we will be conducting occasional pulse checks with our families to gain insights on their current experience at Centerview. We start this Thursday, September 17. Expect an email and/or text message with a few simple questions from Possip, our partner, where you as families can respond in their preferred language. I should have themes and insights to share in next week’s newsletter.

Next week is Spring Lake Park homecoming and spirit week…and dress-up days at Centerview will be:

  • Tuesday, September 22: Pajama Day
  • Wednesday, September 23: Sports Day
  • Thursday, September 24: Crazy, fun, and your favorite hat day
  • Friday, September 25: Panther Spirit Day

Also, you can join the SLP community for their homecoming football game against Cambridge-Isanti next Friday, September 25 at 7 p.m. at Panther Stadium. Buy Homecoming football tickets.

As a reminder that there is no school Monday, September 21. Enjoy the long weekend!

Appreciate you all. Reach out if you have any questions!

Take care,

Mike

Watch for the first pulse check of the year tomorrow

Once again this year, we will be doing occasional, informal pulse checks to gain insights about your experience with our school. Watch for the first text/email from Possip, our partner, tomorrow, Thursday, September 17. Respond in your language of choice. You can share praise, needs, questions or ideas. Please choose to leave your name rather than stay anonymous to help us follow up if needed.

Early next week, we will be looking at the results. We'll share trending topics, respond directly to needs, questions and concerns, and share shout outs and feedback with our staff. Thanks - in advance - for taking a few moments to share your experiences.

A new classroom routine: Sit & Watch

This year, every K–6 classroom will use a new strategy called Sit & Watch. This brief routine gives students a chance to pause, observe and prepare to join an activity.

Students may use Sit & Watch in two situations:

  • Joining an activity: If a student arrives after an activity has started, they may sit quietly for a minute or two and watch their classmates. This helps them understand what is happening and what is expected before joining the group.
  • After a challenging moment: If a student needs a break from a challenging moment, Sit & Watch gives them a brief, calm opportunity to pause and get ready to rejoin the group. The goal is to help students regain self-control and return to learning as quickly as possible.

Students are learning how Sit & Watch works now and practicing the routine, so they know what to expect. Sit & Watch is not meant to shame or isolate students. It is a calm, predictable routine that helps students pause and observe before successfully rejoining their classmates while maintaining a positive learning environment.

Complete your review of student behavior and attendance expectations

Each year, we ask students and families to review student behavior and attendance expectations. After reviewing together, we ask families to acknowledge they have done so. This process helps set the tone for students as they begin the year and clarifies for students how we all expect them to conduct themselves each day at school. If you have any questions about these expectations, reach out to your school principal.

If you haven't done so already, please take five minutes to log into Campus Parent Portal and review these expectations with your student.

  1. Log in to Campus with your district username and password.
  2. Select your student in the upper right corner.
  3. On the main menu click on DOCUMENT.
  4. Locate the Parent Documents section.
  5. Click on the 2026-2027 Behavior and Attendance Agreement.
  6. Review the document with your student.
  7. Sign and submit.
  8. Repeat these steps if you have more than one student in the district.

Student Collaboration in the Reef

First and second graders in "The Reef" had their first home morning meeting where they talked about expectations. Students have also been creating a reef related project, to display as a reef community. First graders in Mrs. Gustafson's class created seahorses as a class.

Centerview Elementary PTO Fun Run Fundraiser October 6

PTO Happenings

Thank you to all our families who attended the first PTO Meeting of the year last night. It was wonderful to connect with so many new and returning families. We received a school update and tour from our principal, Mr. Callahan, and discussed upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

The Fun Run is coming up on Tuesday, October 6. Flyers and envelopes will be sent home with students within the next week. This is the only fundraiser for the Centerview PTO to raise money to support students and staff for the school year. Money raised from the Fun Run will go towards exciting things at the school like PTO Events, Graduations, Field Trips Busses, 4th Grade Field Day, Staff Appreciation, and Enrichment Supplies.

We are asking students to talk with their families and friends about raising $5 from 5 people. Pledge money in cash can be placed in the envelope students will receive next week or pledges can be made digitally here. All students will participate in the Fun Run regardless of funds raised.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 and if we meet this goal, we will get to pour a bucket of ice cold water over Mr. Callahan’s head in front of the whole school! Please have your students return their pledge envelopes to their teacher by Monday, October 5, to support the Fun Run.

Families will be invited to attend and watch their students complete the Fun Run, more details to come as the event nears. Volunteers will be needed to make this a successful event, if you are interested in volunteering check the PTO Happenings next week for the SignUp Genius. We look forward to making this event exciting and fun for everyone!
