MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

CHS COMMUNITY,

As summer quickly winds down, our building full of activity, getting ready for an exciting 2025-26 school year! We've been hard at work with several summer projects aimed at improving our learning environment. Classrooms have fresh paint and new flooring, the last of our new windows are being installed, and our library has undergone a major renovation. The library's transformation is part of a vision to gradually evolve it into a junior/senior student union for eligible students, providing a modern and collaborative space.

Soon enough, on August 13th, our hallways and classrooms will once again be filled with students, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back.

To help ensure a smooth start and efficient operations, we kindly ask you to review the new schedule, updated start/end times, and our revised AM drop-off procedures. We've implemented a new three-tier drop-off system specifically designed to alleviate daily traffic congestion in the mornings, and your cooperation will be key to its success.

Finally, we are thrilled to welcome TEN new staff members to the Chardon High School team! Please join us in extending a warm welcome to:

WELCOME, MRS. HEATHER RUNDO WELCOME, MRS. HEATHER RUNDO

The Chardon High School community will miss Mrs. Christina Sherwood, who served as an Assistant Principal at CHS last year. However, the district is pleased that she is remaining in Chardon and has been appointed as the new Principal of Chardon Middle School.

To fill the Assistant Principal vacancy at Chardon High School, the district has announced the hiring of Mrs. Heather Rundo.

Mrs. Heather Rundo, the new assistant principal of Chardon High School, brings over a decade of educational experience from Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools, where she was an English teacher. She holds a Master's degree in English from Miami University and is currently completing her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a literacy focus. Her extensive background includes teaching, leading professional development, and publishing research on classroom writing.

"What excites me most about joining Chardon is the strong curriculum-community connection I see here. I've always believed that effective education happens when our academic programs serve the community they're built for, while the community supports the excellence our educators create. At Chardon, I'm eager to support our dedicated teachers and amazing students as we work together to ensure every student achieves academic success and becomes a confident contributor to their community. Being part of a team that values both educational innovation and strong community roots is exactly what drew me to this role."

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: 2026 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY MARK YOUR CALENDARS: 2026 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

We are thrilled to announce that our 2026 commencement ceremony will once again be held at Parkside Church! We received overwhelmingly positive feedback about last year's event, and we're excited to offer our Topper graduates the same excellent setting with comfortable seating, impressive video boards, and a grand stage for their walk across.

Please note that we will have one graduation date only, with no rain date or backup date.

While we don't have the exact date confirmed just yet, we are aiming for the week of May 18. Parkside will begin accepting reservations in early September, and they are aware of our preferred dates. As soon as we finalize the specific date, we will send out another message to all seniors.

Chardon High School said goodbye to two incredible educators, Karin and Joe Ricci, who announced their retirements shortly after the end of the school year. Their absence will certainly be felt. We wish them well in their retirement as they get to spend more time with their first grandchild.

GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT

GRADE LEVEL COUNSELORS THIS YEAR

12th Grade: Mr. Hurlbut

11th Grade: Mrs. Patterson

10th Grade: Mrs. Hillman

8th/9th Grade: Mrs. Tupaz

SCHEDULES

Schedules will be posted in Infinite Campus at 3:00 PM on August 6th. If you have a scheduling concern, counselors will be available on August 7th and 8th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the guidance department.

Note on Schedule Changes: Students, please be advised that schedule changes for the 2025-26 school year will be minimal once schedules are posted on August 6th.

We understand that you may have preferences, but changes will only be considered if a verifiable mistake was made in your course assignments. Otherwise, students are expected to follow their assigned schedule as posted. This policy ensures a smooth start to the school year and optimal class sizes.

Chardon High School (grades 8-12) traditionally does not issue school supply lists before the start of the school year. Some 8-12 classes will not have a specific list of required items. For those classes that do, students will receive teacher-specific supply lists during class time during the first week of school. All CHS students are asked to come prepared for the first day of school with basic items e.g. writing utensils, notebooks, etc.

AM STUDENT ARRIVAL PROCEDURES AM STUDENT ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

The doors to Chardon High School will open at 7:20 AM this year. The first bell will ring at 7:40 AM, signaling students to proceed from the gym and cafeteria to their first-period class. Breakfast will be served starting at 7:20 AM, with the cafeteria reserved for students eating breakfast before class.

Bus Riders

  • Bus riders will be released from the ALCAN parkway collectively at 7:20 AM.

  • This new timing is implemented to help lessen traffic congestion on Chardon Avenue and Canfield.

Car Riders

  • Car rider drop-off procedures remain the same as last year.

  • It's recommended that you drop off your child after 7:25 AM. This allows sufficient time for bus riders to walk from the ALCAN parkway to the high school building, minimizing congestion.

Student Drivers

  • Student drivers who do not eat breakfast at school should plan to leave their cars in the student lot around 7:35 AM.

  • This timing provides students with 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot to their first-period class.

General Entry/Exit

  • All student traffic, including bus riders, car riders, and student drivers, will enter and exit Chardon High School through the vestibule doors, consistent with last year's procedures.

We acknowledge that this new system will take time for everyone to adjust. Your patience and cooperation during the first few weeks of school are greatly appreciated as the school community adapts to these minor change in procedures.
