From the Leopard's Den
September 27, 2026
From the Principal
Dear Leggee Families,
As we continue to focus on supporting the success of every Leopard, our staff recently participated in two professional learning breakout sessions led by Mrs. Mitchell and me. The sessions focused on Executive Functioning and Cognitive Load Theory, providing practical strategies to help students develop independence, organization, and deeper learning skills.
Throughout the week, our staff also participated in grade-level data meetings where we reviewed student performance from our fall benchmark assessments. Teams analyzed student data, celebrated successes, identified areas for growth, and began setting goals and action steps to support student achievement throughout the school year.
Last week was also filled with school spirit and celebration! Students and staff enjoyed participating in our Homecoming Spirit Week alongside Huntley High School. We wrapped up the week with our exciting Fun Run, hosted by our PTA. A special thank you to our Leggee PE team for organizing and setting up the course, as well as to our PTA and volunteers for making the event such a success. It was wonderful to see our school community come together for a fun-filled day of school spirit, teamwork, and healthy activity!
Warmly,
Mrs. Weirich

The Leggee Fun Run was a blast for students, volunteers, and staff! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our families and community, we raised over $50,000! Wow!
The day was filled with color, energy, and excitement as students ran, jumped, danced, and cheered their way around the course.
A special thank you to our PTA, volunteers, and Leggee PE team for their hard work in planning and organizing such a fun and successful day for our students. We are grateful for the support of our amazing school community!

School-Home Connection Reminders
To help ensure a safe and smooth school day for all students, please keep the following reminders in mind:
- Visitors: If you are visiting Leggee during the school day, please enter through the main office and bring a valid photo ID. All visitors are required to sign in and receive a guest badge before entering the building.
- Contacting Teachers: If you need to reach your child's teacher during the school day, please call the main office. Teachers are actively engaged in instruction and are unable to answer phone calls during teaching time. We will be happy to relay your message.

Illinois State Assessments
Each spring, students in grades 3-8 participate in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), a statewide assessment required by the Illinois State Board of Education. The IAR measures student achievement in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics based on the Illinois Learning Standards. Students in grades 5 and 8 also participate in the Illinois Science Assessment each spring.
Your child's last year's report came home last week.
You can also access your child’s personalized score report through the online family portal.

Fall benchmark assessment results are now available in PowerSchool. Parents and guardians of students in grades 3–5 can view their child's STAR assessment scores through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Families of students in kindergarten through second grade can also access benchmark assessment information and scores through PowerSchool.
Historical assessment data will continue to be added, allowing families to view and track their child's growth over time. Please review the grade-level information letter below for additional details about the assessments and how to access results.
