Welcome Back! Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! We have a lot of fun activities planned for you this year and we hope that you are as excited as we are.

Some things to note:

1. Students will be coming home with syllabi to review and sign that goes over rules and policies of most classes. Each class is different so if you have a question please reach out to the teacher directly.

2. The IB Office is open for lunches each day. If a student needs to purchase lunch first, stop by 117 to get a pass and then they will be able to leave the cafeteria to come eat in 117.

3. I am working on field trip planning for the year. We will visit colleges, cultural spaces, and academic facilities like science labs. If there is somewhere you would like to go, please let me know and I can look into it.

4. I will be in communication with IB parents on a regular basis to follow up about things like grade and behaviors. Please check email often and reply or give me a call when you have time. If I do not answer the phone in my office, I am probably teaching or out of the building, but if you leave a message I can return the call. I am able to answer email on my personal phone so that is usually a very quick response.

Support our first fundraiser of the year by purchasing a calendar. This was designed by Brianna Nelson and I and includes student art work and photos from events from last school year. Proceeds will go to our events and the scholarship fund. See me in 117 to purchase with cash or purchase on the link above with a card.

IB Mid Atlantic College Fair IB Mid Atlantic College Fair

Although we are not able to attend together as a field trip, this is an opportunity to see schools that are from around the world and that accept IB credits.

CAS- Grades 11 and 12 CAS- Grades 11 and 12

All students who are working towards the IB Diploma must complete CAS. They work on reflection in the areas of Creativity, Activity, and Service over 18 months and must also complete one project. Aaliyah is organizing a student and staff Basketball game!

One way to support your IB DP grade 11 and 12 student is to ask them what they did this week for CAS? Help them to reflect on what they are doing that is creative like cooking or art, active like sports or exercise, and service related like donating items.

How do IB Students Compare at the Top Universities? How do IB Students Compare at the Top Universities?

The IB Diploma Program is the most rigorous academic program available to our students and the benefits can be seen for years beyond high school graduation. This study examined the difference in acceptance into the top 25 schools to show how IB students are accepted at a higher percentage across the board.

They also offer a summer program where students can live on campus for 5 weeks in the summer to take college classes and experience dorm life. For more information check out their website. See Ms. L. Williams if you have questions.
