Note from the Middle School Principal
Good Morning FHUMS Families,
It has been a solid start to the school year and we thank you for all you do to make that happen. Attending Open House, reading communications sent home, adjusting morning routines and reaching out with questions - all are appreciated. Students are working hard to get settled in, persistently practicing the locks on the lockers, getting the hang of their schedules and learning the daily routines. We are spending time reviewing our expectations around safe, responsible, respectful behavior in all settings - classrooms, hallways, cafeterias and on buses.
We ask for your help in reinforcing these expectations, emphasizing the need for safe behavior on the buses. The bus drivers primary focus should be the road and road safety. This is most possible when students are in their seats keeping themselves and their belongings out of the aisle while maintaining a low level of conversation and responding to the directions or redirections of the bus driver.
There will be many chances for students to get involved outside of the school day and those connections can increase a student's engagement in their school community. Fall athletics are underway, the drama club is up and running as is the marching band! We are planning to hold our "Club Day" on September 17th. This is an opportunity for students to learn about our club offerings at FHU. There are also a couple posters below advertising events outside of our school community that may be of interest to families.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Jennefer Paquette
FHUMHS Co-Principal
Middle School Student Planner
We have provided students with a planner and will be teaching them how to use it. They will receive support and occasional check-ins in both advisory and in classes. It can also be a great tool to connect home and school. Set the expectation with your child that the planner comes home with them every day, help them make it a habit and ask them to show it to you on a regular basis. This will allow you to be sure that they are using it and allow you to support them in completing tasks for school. Learning how to organize life, manage time, and prioritize tasks are part of a group of skills referred to as executive functioning skills. These executive functioning skills are still very much in development in middle school. Students need support and direction from school and home as they mature and learn these skills. Strong executive functioning skills will benefit students throughout life - be it in school, at the workplace and even just managing life. Let's team up on this one and give our children the very best chance to succeed!

Rutland Squadron of Civil Air Patrol
The Rutland Squadron of Civil Air Patrol will be having an Open House Meeting on Thursday, September 26th, from 6pm to 8:30pm. The cadet program is for young people ages 12-18.
The cadet program is a unique opportunity for young people in the area. Cadets explore their interests in aviation with stem activities, orientation flights in both powered and glider aircraft, and special activities. Cadets who want to earn their pilot's license also have some special opportunities in the program. They also train in emergency services and disaster relief as well as community service opportunities. Cadets learn military drill and ceremonies and participate in physical fitness training as well.
The squadron building is located at 1002 Airport Rd, Clarendon, VT.
