Homecoming Week Festivities

I would like to begin by saying thank you to the entire Eastlake feeder pattern and learning community for participating in our Homecoming festivities last week. The attendance for our Wednesday community pep rally was record breaking. It was exciting to have all our feeder schools in attendance and actively showcasing their talents. The Friday pep rally and football game were also very well attended and you could feel the school spirit and pride of our Falcons. The entire school united as one entity with a goal to beat Coronado HS and have fun as a student body. Friday also showcased the amazing talents of our Fine Arts students in the Cast of Falcon play. Finally, Saturday sealed the week with Saturday morning classes, then an amazing turnout for the homecoming dance. Students had fun dancing, eating, and celebrating with their homecoming court.

There are two weeks remaining in Marking Period One. With this said, it is imperative for students not to procrastinate and stay ahead of their grades. Keep the focus on academics. Too many of our students procrastinate on turning in assignments or even getting to class on time. We must model our expectations and teach students to arrive on time and submit their assignments for teachers to grade and update their gradebooks.

The six weeks failure report has been updated by our SCEI coaches and Dean of Instruction. Fall intersession notices will be forthcoming. Students requiring academic intervention will be asked to attend from Monday, October 2nd through the 5th.

Students will also have the opportunity to reconcile any loss of credit they have. I most recently shared with students that procrastination and lack of attendance is like a credit card. "It is fun to use until you get the bill." Remember, procrastination will make the easy things hard, and the hard things harder.

Our area of academic focus this week will be in algebra I and II. Campus administration will conduct learning walks to identify the levels of rigor and relevance in math. Mathematics is extremely important for students to develop problem solving skills. It will enhance their creativity, help learners create systems of structure to meet deadlines, and also help identify patterns to solve day to day matters.

Once again, thank you Eastlake Learning Community for your continued support.

Together we will always be BETTER!

Respectfully,

Gilbert R. Martinez

Proud Principal of Eastlake HS
