A Note from the Principal: My Purpose and Passion
Dear Booker Families,
The first week of October has been filled with learning, teamwork, and celebration! Our teachers engaged in a full week of professional learning, including Saturday, to strengthen instructional practices and support every scholar’s success.
Our scholars engaged in our annual bilingual spelling bee and we are so proud of all of the participants! Spelling random words in front of their peers is not easy! We just want to celebrate our Bilingual Spelling Bee Champion — as well as our runner up for going 17 rounds, what an incredible accomplishment and a proud moment for our Bengals!
As we head into this week, remember that Fall Break is next week, October 13–17. Hang in there, scholars — you’re almost there! Let’s finish the week strong with great attendance, positive energy, and a focus on learning.
We appreciate your continued support and partnership. Together, we are building something great for our Bengals!
With Bengal Pride,
Booker Administration
MEDICAL ALERT UPDATE!
In accordance with Senate Bill 12 (SB 12), parents now have the option to opt out of allowing their child to be seen in the school clinic during the school day.
Please note that if you choose to opt out:
Your child may only be seen in the clinic for emergency situations.
Regular or non-emergency visits to the nurse (such as headaches, stomachaches, minor scrapes, or other routine concerns) will not be allowed.
You will be contacted to pick up your child for non-emergency situations.
screenings like eyesight, hearing, and scoliosis can not be performed.
We urge you to carefully consider this decision, as opting out significantly limits our ability to support your child’s health needs during the school day.
To ensure your child can receive full care in the clinic, please complete the consent form at the link below: SB 12 Health Consent Form
If you have any questions before making this decision, please contact our school nurse:
Mrs. Hughes, RN
Phone: 281-891-8757
Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for working with us to keep all Bengals safe and healthy.
If you have already completed the form, we thank you for your prompt attention.
IMPORTAT MESSAGE REGARDING IMMUNIZATIONS!
Important Immunization Compliance Notice
Dear Booker Families,
This is an important health and safety reminder for all Booker parents and guardians. Booker Elementary has been flagged by the Texas Department of State Health Services and Harris County Public Health as having one of the lowest compliance rates for student immunizations among elementary schools. This means that several students are still missing updated shot records or have not yet submitted their proof of immunization for the school year.
We need your immediate help to change that. Students who are not up to date on their immunizations—or who have not submitted their shot records—will not be allowed to attend school after Friday, October 10, 2025. All families were given a 30-day grace period to provide these records, and that deadline is now here. District and campus reminders have been sent to each family whose child is out of compliance.
Please submit your child’s updated shot record to Nurse Hughes as soon as possible.
Please note that while absences due to missing immunizations may be excused, they still count toward your child’s total absences and can negatively impact their attendance record and academic progress.
Keeping our Bengals healthy protects everyone—especially during this season when allergies and illnesses are common. Immunizations help prevent the spread of serious diseases and ensure our scholars can learn in a safe, healthy environment.
We must comply with Texas state law and Harris County Public Health regulations, which require all students to be properly immunized in order to attend school. Your cooperation is essential to keeping our campus and community safe. If you have any questions or need support obtaining your child’s immunization record, please contact Nurse Hughes immediately.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and for helping us protect the health of every Bengal.
With appreciation,
Booker Administration

WILL YOU WIN THE ATTENDANCE PRIZE?
September is National #AttendanceAwarenessMonth! Being present on time and ready to learn builds strong routines that are the foundation for student success. Missing two days a month totals 10% of the school year, which is considered chronic absenteeism. Consistent attendance: Boosts academic performance and grade-level proficiency. Let's make every day count!
FRIENDLY REMINDERS FOR PARENTS!
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Parents, we want to remind you that all birthday celebrations are only 15 minutes long. To avoid long interruptions of instructional minutes, we must limit our celebrations, especially since we have a class size with sometimes 24 students. So, to help us out - we will only be accepting cupcakes and juices for birthday celebrations. No pizzas allowed. All cupcakes must be in sealed container with a label (with label) and juices must be boxed juices only. We would love to have additional treats such as pizza, but sadly we cannot afford to lose the instructional time. Please drop all birthday cupcakes off before noon or send them with your child (if they are a car rider). We want to ensure that teachers are aware of any birhtday goodies to plan their instruction around the celebrations.
Only 34 left! We want to ensure that all families are complying with district and state mandates. Remember, determining a campus' socioeconomic status is a part of our accountability rating system. So, this is extremely important for us to be at 100% completion!
IMMUNIZATIONS
-Kinder parents - we need your help! We have been flagged by the Texas Department of Public Health for noncompliance with immunizations for our Kinder class! Please get those shot records in to stay enrolled. We will be updating all records by the end of this week and will have to withdraw any kinder student who does not have immunizations on file! We need 100% compliance with immunizations as well.
Health Consent - CALLING ALL PARENTS - you must fill out a consent for every child you have here at Booker Elementary! Click this link to access the health consent form:
DAILY ATTENDANCE MATTERS - Come each day and arrive before 8 am! – Give yourself extra time to get through the car rider line! We have about 30-40 students absent a day! Only keep students home if they have a fever or a doctor's note excusing them! 90% attendance is a state mandate! School starts promptly at 8:05 am each day! Let's see if we can reach 100% of our scholars being on time this week!
Front Office Visits - Parents needing to visit the front office in the mornings and afternoons - Please enter the building through the main entrance for assistance; preferably without your child in the mornings. Children who are car riders should be dropped off first in the car rider line, then parents we ask that you park in the front visitor parking spots or the curb that is NOT THE FIRE LANE. Proceed to the entrance with your valid ID or passport and ring the doorbell. You will be required to go through the metal detectors before proceeding to the window for assistance.
Visitor Mandate: Valid ID or passport required for all visitors! You must have a valid ID to be buzzed in! Be Ready to show your ID for all transactions and requests, upon entering the building.
Show respect for all stakeholders; our school, staff, and students! Be kind and respectful in your interactions with our staff members, teachers, and administrators. We want to ensure a positive environment for all and ensure the safety and security for all stakeholders. Please refrain from using profanity, disrespectful or threatening language/behaviors when interacting with our staff. Please be mindful that all clothing must be appropriate and free from inappropriate language/designs or revealing in nature.
Keep your contact information updated! If order for you to stay updated with the latest and most accurate school related information, please make sure you update your email address and phone number if you change them. Also, we need every parent to please sign up for DOJO to receive messages from your classroom teacher!
Let's keep up the great partnership and ensure we hold the highest standards for each other and our scholars! Together, we can achieve GREAT things!
Please read our Safety Reminders below!

VISITOR PROCEDURES
RING THE DOORBELL!
Parents or guardians will be required to stand in front of an exterior camera and present valid identification, such as a driver’s license, before they are granted access to the building. This camera is positioned outside, near the main entrance, and no one will be permitted inside until their identity has been verified by the front office staff. To further enhance security, adults are asked to close the door immediately upon entering and ensure no one follows them in and must proceed through the metal detectors. Tardiness not only impacts learning but can also interfere with the seamless implementation of these protocols.
Let’s work together to ensure everyone's safety and that every student is present, on time, and ready to learn each day!
School Hours: 8:05 am - 3:25 pm
SAFETY IS OUR #1 PRIORITY!
SMART TAG IS MANDATORY!
