Principal's Corner- August 14th, 2026
Week 1 is behind us and we're cruising into week 2. Hopefully your student has come home each night telling you about something new, fun, or exciting that happened. Perhaps they have relayed lunch adventures about the Portable Cafe! It has been quite a week. Whatever it may be, they are doing a great job getting acclimated to changes.
Going into week 2, students should know where their classes are and who their teachers are. Dress code and the state cell phone law will be more closely enforced this week. If they haven't had some already, students may have homework in AP or advanced classes.
Encourage them to find something to be a part of as clubs and organizations get going as well. I will post meeting dates and times for NSITE clubs and organizations in the coming weeks.
Here is what is going on at NSITE!
The Main Frame
TEA has released the 2026 accountability ratings for Texas schools and Holmes/NSITE has earned a B! We will continue to grow and work hard for an even higher rating. You can see details about the amazing work our teachers and students accomplished together or check out the ratings for other campuses here.
Portable Cafe
Students are doing a great job getting to the portables, grabbing their lunch, and finding seats. Now that many students have their off-campus lunch stickers, the portables have gotten roomier. We are in the process of adding outdoor tables and benches so that students have optional seating throughout the year.
Next week we will open up the NSITE office for students to come to our building during their 30 minute lunch time. See the graphic below for information about what to do to secure a pass. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and they are limited. Passes will be available for sign out before school only. Passes need to be signed out daily.
As a reminder, food deliveries to students are not permitted during the school day. This includes deliveries from family/guardians, restaurants, or food-delivery services.
IDs
IDs have been distributed this week. All freshmen should have taken their picture and been issued their ID by now. If your student doesn't have their ID, they need to get it soon! They need to go to the I building before or after school.
This year, NISD transportation will require students to have an ID in order to ride the bus. Additionally, students will require IDs to eat in the portable cafeteria as well as to enter buildings.
Getting to and From School
When you are dropping your student off at the front of campus, the left lane is a THRU lane and the right lane is designated for student drop-off or pick-up.
If you are dropping off near the NSITE building, avoid the bus loop lane. That lane is for buses ONLY. Pulling into that lane to pick up or drop off could result in a ticket.
You are also welcome to wait in the lot adjacent to the football field to park for after school pick up.
Cell Phones
In accordance with House Bill 1481, all students must power off and store all electronic devices from bell to bell. (this includes phones, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, and tablets). For our campus, that is 8:50 to 4:20 and includes passing periods as well as lunch. Beginning on the first day of school, students will be expected to put their phones away in every classroom. Teachers have the discretion to ask students to store their cell phones in a particular location or keep their cell phones in their backpacks. Either way, student backpacks are expected to be kept in a specified area of the classroom. We ask that you discuss compliance with this law with your student.
