Week 8
Dear MUMS community,
I want to start by thanking those of you who made it to Parent/Teacher Conferences on Wednesday night! It was so nice to see so many families at school, eager to learn about how the year has been so far! My sincere hope is that many of you who weren't able to attend on Wednesday evening, are able to attend virtually today! As you know, the partnership between school and home is paramount to student growth and MUMS continues to feel so much gratitude for the support of this community!
On another note, next week is the last week of Quarter 1. Please take a look at your students grades in PS and encourage them to complete any missing assignments. Feel free to reach out to your student's teacher with any questions about specific grades.
I hope you all have a great weekend!
Best,
Michaela Wisell ~ Principal

Greetings MUMS Caregivers!
Last week I was distracted from my computer when, out the window, I noticed our intrepid 8th grade students wading through the cattail marshes in the name of science! The students are studying the school’s artificial wetland to learn about the different forms of energy and how energy is transferred within and between systems. In the photos below they are counting the number of species in a measured plot and comparing plots in and out of the wetland. Students will describe how a wetland’s ability to transform the kinetic energy of moving water benefits humans and the environment and apply that to real world problems like flooding prevention measures in Vermont. This unit is packed with scientific investigation and real world connections. After their investigations they will be tackling a written summative where given a specific flooding problem, they propose solutions based on what they’ve learned.
Picture Retake Day!
Picture retake day will be Wednesday November 12th.
If you have not already purchased your school pictures through mylifetouch.com, you can do so by using the Portrait ID EVTX28MPF and Access Code to order your school pictures. Use code F2410OFF for 10% off your order. If your student was absent on October 1st for Picture Day, then they will automatically be included in retake day. If you would like to ensure your child gets their picture taken on November 12th, please contact Megan Curran. If you have any other questions or concerns please contact Megan Curran at mcurran@acsdvt.org.

Students will be divided into teams the week before and a schedule for the season will be provided at that time. All games will be held in the MUMS gymnasium
- Boys Intramurals will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays 3:30-5:00 starting on November 3rd and running through November 19th

Student Absences, Dismissals + Bus Notes
If your student will be absent from school, needs an early dismissal, or will take a different bus, please follow these directions:
- Absence / early dismissal: Call 802-382-1297, the MUMS attendance line, before 8:30am (helpful tip: add this number to your phone now as "MUMS attendance line")
- Early dismissal + bus notes: Students must deliver a caregiver's note to the front office when arriving at school (before TA).
- If taking a bus other than their regular bus: Students must bring a caregiver's note and have it signed by a MUMS Administrative Assistant in the front office to be valid.
Shoreham/Cornwall bus caveats
Please use the "button" above to preview our ACSD bus routes.
Also please note a few caveats that impact students who ride Cornwall or Shoreham buses home.
Cornwall and Shoreham buses do not come to MUMS at pick-up time. Students who ride those buses must take a shuttle from MUMS to MUHS to meet their bus.
Cornwall students use the Bridport bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Cornwall bus at the High school to ride home.
Shoreham students use the Weybridge bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Shoreham bus at the High school to ride home.
