🦈 This Week in Literacy: Shark Attack!

Hello families! This week, our class will continue exploring the text Shark Attack! to build reading, writing, and discussion skills. Here’s what we’ll be working on:

  • Use text features (like photographs, captions, and headings) to find information for New-Read Assessment 1.

  • Identify the main idea of a passage and practice writing a summary of Shark Attack.

  • Complete a graphic organizer to sort related evidence.

  • Choose two new vocabulary words and write meaningful sentences about why it’s important to protect sharks from extinction.

  • Define and use the words predator and prey.

  • Make real-life connections with new ocean vocabulary.

  • Participate in a Socratic Seminar, where students will practice listening carefully, following discussion rules, and speaking in complete sentences with elaboration and details.

We’re excited to keep learning about sharks while practicing important reading and writing skills!

Reading Specialist

Welcome back, 3rd grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Amanda Montgomery and I will be one of your child's Reading Specialists for this year. I am excited to start this school year by getting to know all of your child's strengths and then making a plan to help them grow as readers. Please do not hesitate to email me (amontgomery@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) or call, if you have any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year of growth.

3rd grade will start their beginning of the year literacy assessments on August 4th. This process will take about 3 weeks to complete and it is very important for your child to be at school, ready to give their best! Thank you for all you do at home to support us here at school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Amanda Montgomery
