A Message From the Principal

We are getting to the end of the 3rd 9 weeks. Students have 9 days to turn in missing assignments and bring their grades up. Remember we have the after school program 4 days a week until 4:30pm. This is a great opportunity for students to come and get additional support on their school work.

With March just a few days away that means State Assessments are just around the corner.

Our plan is to do ELA State Assessments for 5th-8th grade the week of March 27, we will do Math State Assessments the week of April 3rd and we will do Science for 5th and 8th grade only on April 12th and 13th.

Again I am asking parents to donate individual snacks (goldfish, pb crackers, cheese crackers, fruit snacks, cheez its, granola bars) individual candies (mints, smarties, fun size candy bars) and gum. The students LOVED the treats last year, each student was able to get a snack, a candy and a piece of gum each day they tested. This provided them with fuel and energy prior to taking the test or they saved it to refuel after they took the test.

We have 5th and 8th graders that will take 3 tests and will have a total of 6 test sessions each and 6th and 7th graders that will take 2 tests and will have a total of 4 test sessions each.

We need roughly 1,400 snacks, 1,400 individual candies, and 1,400 pieces of gum in order to give each student one for all of their test sessions. If you are able to donate something please let me know or you can start sending it to school with your child on Monday.

Thanks!

5th Grade

This week, students explored careers in the Green: Agriculture Sciences career cluster. A lot of the students related to many of the careers that they explored as they love animals and being outside.

6th, 7th Grade - Career Exploration

This week, students completed the remaining lessons in Xello where they explored their own interests that provide them with information about what job or career path might be the best fit for them. Next week, they will get the chance to dive a little deeper into a specific career.

8th Grade - Career Exploration

If you haven't completed this Google Form yet, please do so by next Tuesday. I sent this yesterday, but it sounds like it went to some people's spam again...I'm sorry.

8th Grade Health Class Discussion

Next week, Mrs. Schrader and Nurse Abby will be visiting the Health Classes to speak with the 8th grade students about the dangers and risks of taking and sending inappropriate photos. During this presentation, students will watch THIS VIDEO and have a discussion about the potential long-term consequences of engaging in such behaviors. They will talk about how having these images on their phones can result in consequences of child pornograpny distribution, possession and production. The discussion will happen with boys and girls separately. If you do NOT want your student to be a part of this discussion, please let Mrs. Dooley or Mrs. Schrader know by the end of the day on Monday (February 27).

Attendance

I came across these infographics this week, and I thought it had some good, easy to read information. Attendance is so important! A lot of students who I work with get overwhelmed when they miss school. If a kid is sick, then they shouldn't come to school, but if they are just having an "off day," I always encourage them to try it first. Most of the time, after they get here, see their friends and wake up a little bit, they are good to go! I always tell students they are more than welcome to come by my office if they are having a slow start to their day -- we all have those every once in a while. If your student is struggling in the mornings and consistently saying they don't want to come to school, please reach out to me. I want to help them be successful!
