Rick Geer Named SISD Interim Chief of Staff
Sunnyvale ISD has named Rick Geer as the interim Chief of Staff for the 25-26 school year. In this role, Mr. Geer will be responsible for many of the areas previously assigned to the assistant superintendent role. Mr. Geer brings 43 years of experience and a passion for community to the district’s leadership team—a combination that promises a focus on both stability and growth during a pivotal time.
Geer has previously served as the chief of human services at Forney ISD, where his leadership areas included Human Resources, Student Services, Athletics, Transportation, and Health Services.
“My time as both a campus and district administrator has given me a well-rounded perspective and the ability to lead with empathy, strategy, and operational insight,” Geer said.
Geer has strong family ties to Sunnyvale ISD. His son Zach Geer coaches SHS baseball and his daughter in law Ashlyn Geer is the secondary instructional coordinator. Additionally, he has a granddaughter attending SISD.
The interim chief of staff position was especially appealing to Geer because Sunnyvale ISD is known for supporting the whole child and maintaining high standards, he said.
“What excites me most is becoming part of a close-knit, high-achieving district where relationships matter.” Geer said. “Sunnyvale ISD has a unique culture of excellence and support, and I’m eager to contribute to that by serving students, staff, and families with integrity and heart.”
Fostering relationships will be a priority for Geer, beginning with visibility and authentic engagement. “Building relationships begins with being present, listening well, and showing genuine care,” he said, emphasizing a commitment to trust and consistent follow-through.
Beyond the office, a lesser-known fact about Sunnyvale’s newest leader is his prior career as a high school head baseball coach, a role that shaped his leadership style which is grounded in patience, preparation, and investment in others. Family time and a love for watching baseball remain important hobbies.
Perhaps most of all, Geer is eager to join in Sunnyvale’s celebrated traditions, from Friday night football to homecoming events. “I’m especially looking forward to seeing that energy in action while wearing the BLUE & GOLD and participating alongside students, staff, and families,” he said.
