🔗 Teaching is hard, especially in December. Let's teach together! ❄️

A powerful habit for students and teachers!

I'm sure many of us created sets on index cards bound together by a rubber band that usually had a knot after taking it off so much to study my SAT words.

While the world has changed, students still need help with retrieval practice to help build knowledge for more complex and creative tasks. Research repeatedly proves that there is merit in repeated practice and returning to flashcards to help students make learning last.

Dr. Pooja Agrawal has a quick method to help with flashcard practice that is akin to the rinse, lather, repeat that we also use daily (hopefully):

1) Retrieve: Students should make sure they are retrieving the answer.

2) Re-order: Students should shuffle their deck each time they go through it to challenge themselves

3) Repeat: Students should keep cards in their deck until they've correctly retrieved it three times.

Let's take it to the next level (or maybe easier) with some tech!

Gamify flashcard practice!

Quizizz is one of my favorite tools for the classroom because of its versatility and ease of use.

You can go from a live, in-class game to asynchronous practice to flashcards within the same set.

Another time saver? Quizizz AI can create a game instantly, and once you check it over and add your human touches, it's good to go!

Templates galore!

Canva has so many tools and templates built in that you can do anything creative without ever leaving the platform.

As a premium educator (free for all EC-12 educators in public schools), check out their ways to make flashcards or for students to create their own!

Quick Sets for K-5!

Frank the Monster wants to help make your "boring" facts more engaging. With all due respect, Frank, my 9's times tables are fascinating.

This elementary to middle school site is free to use and helps students engage easier in remembering facts and testing their knowledge in all core subjects (and even some that don't fit into the core 4 [ELA, math, science, & social studies]).

Create and export easily!

Check out what other teachers have used and remix into your own!

One of my personal favorites is to export Quizlet decks straight to Blooket or Gimkit for practice.

Note: Quizlet is NOT SOPPA-approved for any school district. Students cannot create sets or accounts in Quizlet.

Create word lists into flashcards!

Dictionary.com allows you to easily create lists with proper definitions and pronunciations and share them easily.

Use their definitions to make your work more efficient and work with students easier!
