Spotlight
Last week, we held our monthly Character Trait Assembly to discuss September's trait: Diligence.
Diligence is an important character trait for students to develop because it reflects commitment, perseverance, and a strong sense of duty. It encourages students to give their best effort, even when faced with challenges that may seem difficult or overwhelming.
To help illustrate the importance of diligence, we connected this trait to the incredible construction of the pyramids. Building these massive structures was a seemingly insurmountable task, from the sheer size of the pyramids to the enormous stones that had to be carefully placed to create them.
This example helped students understand that, in life, the tasks we set out to accomplish can sometimes seem larger than life. What matters most is our willingness to commit to the task, persevere through challenges, and give it our very best effort, even when something seems impossible.
Congratulations to all of our students who were recognized during this assembly for demonstrating outstanding character during the first month of school! We are so proud of their efforts and look forward to celebrating even more of our students and their exceptional character as the school year continues.
Science
This week, our 3rd grade students stepped into the role of amateur archaeologists as they explored the world of fossils through a hands-on cookie excavation!
Using toothpicks, paintbrushes, and magnifying glasses, students carefully excavated chocolate chips from cookies, simulating the process of a real fossil dig. This engaging activity gave students the opportunity to experience firsthand the patience, precision, and careful attention to detail that professional archaeologists use during excavations.
Through this activity, students also learned about the fragility of fossils and gained a deeper appreciation for the time, care, and skill that go into uncovering and preserving these important pieces of our past.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to PCK this October! In the near future, we will announce the specific dates and times that the Book Fair will be open from.
We’re looking for volunteers to help with a variety of tasks while the fair is open. From assisting at the register to helping our youngest readers navigate their shopping and find books they’ll love.
Every bit of help makes a difference! Your support will help the fair run smoothly and ensure our students have the guidance they need to discover books that match their interests and foster their love of reading.
If you are interested in volunteering at the fair, please complete our Scholastic Book Fair Volunteer Interest form. More information about volunteering will be shared at a later date with those who complete this form.
Lunch
We’ve loved welcoming our families back into the building during this first month of school and seeing them connect with their students during lunchtime!
As a friendly reminder, soda is not permitted in our lunchroom during student lunches. This includes soda brought in with a cold lunch from home, as well as soda brought in when visiting your student for lunch.
Additionally, while we understand that your student may be excited to have a friend join them for lunch with their parent, we are unable to accommodate additional students at the visitor lunch table. When you visit your student for lunch, only your student may join you at the designated visitor table located outside of the lunchroom.
Thank you for helping us follow these guidelines and maintain our health and safety standards during lunchtime.
Athletics
It’s time to go camping! Our Athletics department is offering camps for our K-5th students with our boys soccer, girls volleyball, spirit, and co-ed cross country teams!
These camps are led by our current PCK student athletes, giving students the opportunity to experience firsthand what it’s like to be part of the team. Campers participate in fun drills and games designed to help them develop the skills needed to succeed in each sport.
Included in the camp experience, each camper will receive a camp t-shirt that can be worn on PCK Spirit Days.
You can find the full camp schedule below. Be on the lookout for registrations for each camp in next week's newsletter.
Boys Soccer Camp - September 22 (3:15-4:35 p.m.)
Girls Volleyball Camp - September 22 (3:15-4:35 p.m.)
Cross Country Camp - October 5 (3:15-4:35 p.m.)
Spirit Camp - September 22-24 (3:30-5:00 p.m.)
Spirit Rock
Help support our 8th grade graduates by showing your school spirit!
The PCK Spirit Rock is now taking reservations for the 2026-27 school year! The rock is a great way to capture special messages celebrating students, families, or this year’s graduating class.
Reservations are for an entire week, and can be made throughout the entirety of the school year.
Clubs
Clubs are back at PCK for the 2026-27 school year! Be on the lookout in the near future for more club registrations available for our fall session.
At this time, we only have one club open for registration, which is our Homework Club.
Homework Club
Meeting Dates: Monday-Thursdays, 3:20-4:15 p.m. (excluding half-days, and days when school is not in session)
Meeting Location: Room 115

Homework Club will officially start next week on Monday, September 14.
At this club students will have the opportunity to work on their homework while a teacher is there to guide them through their work. Registration for Homework Club can be completed below, and will be open throughout the remainder of the school year.
From the Foundation
NEXT WEEK IS FUND RUN WEEK! We’re in the final stretch, and this is the last chance to help PCK reach our fundraising goals while earning awesome prizes for our students! Boost Week kicks off tomorrow with a different class party up for grabs each day, and every day counts—the class with the highest fundraising as of 8:00 p.m. wins the party!
Keep sharing, keep fundraising, and help your class climb to the top. JUST DROPPED: the top-earning 3 students of the entire event will earn the opportunity to DUNK MR. MINSHALL on the field! Let’s make this final push BIG, have some fun, and finish the PCK Fund Run strong!
From the PTO
From the SAC
Our next SAC meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 21 at 8:15 a.m. at PCK.
We warmly invite the PCK community to join us for an opportunity to engage with our team and learn more about the vital role we play within our school.
The SAC serves an essential function by providing accountability in an advisory capacity. Our purpose is to inform, encourage, and create opportunities for parents or guardians to engage meaningfully with the school's performance, budget and improvement plans.
