METCO Newsletter
Bedford METCO | April 2025 | Week 4/14
Dear METCO Families,
As we enter the final week before Spring break, we would like to encourage all of our students to push through and finish the week off strong. We know that the past few months have been challenging, but we are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication that our scholars have shown. Let’s make these last few days count!
We also want to take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone who made Saturday's bowling event such a success. A special thanks to the PDC, Urban Wild, and all the parents, staff, and administrators who came out to participate. It was truly a wonderful sight to see families, friends, and staff from both Boston and Bedford come together for a day of fun and fellowship. We are looking forward to planning more events like this in the future and providing opportunities for families to connect and enjoy each other’s company.
We greatly appreciate the continued support from our parents, particularly those who have been actively answering the Possip questions. This tool is vital in giving you, the Boston parents, a platform to voice your opinions on important school-based issues that affect both you and your child. Your feedback is invaluable, and we are thankful for your participation. Please look out for more questions in the coming weeks, and remember, your input helps shape the direction of our district.
Additionally, we will be sending out information and setting up a Zoom meeting for our Boston parents to hear a presentation on the study regarding later start times for upper elementary students. This discussion will take place after Spring break and will provide important facts and information as the district decides whether to move forward with the research group on this topic. We hope you can join us for this informative meeting.
As always, please find this week’s late bus schedule attached. We appreciate your continued engagement and support of the METCO program.
Thank you, and have a wonderful Spring break! We look forward to seeing everyone back after the break, ready to finish the year strong!
Warm regards,
The METCO Team

Bedford Healthy School Hours Communication Plan
Throughout this school year, in alignment with Strategic Objective 2.1 regarding student wellbeing, the School Committee has considered whether a change in school hours is in the best interest of students. This Bedford Healthy School Hours Communication Plan outlines multiple opportunities for stakeholders to learn more about the research on healthy school hours and to provide feedback. In particular, please note that 5th - 12th graders will have this opportunity during school, and that there are family & community Forums planned for April 29th at 7:15pm at BHS (in-person), April 30th at 7:00pm (virtual with a focus on Boston families), and May 1st at 7:15pm virtual). Moving On Ceremony and Celebration
Attention 8th Grade Caregivers,
RSVP for Moving On 2025 HERE by May 1!
Moving On 2025 is scheduled for Monday, June 16, 2025. John Glenn Middle School staff and the Middle School Parents Association (MSPA) are excited to present the 8th Grade Moving On ceremony and events. The JGMS staff will be planning the ceremony, while the MSPA will be planning a celebration for our 8th grade students as they move on to high school.
In the week leading up to Moving On, the LGI hallway will be dedicated to our 8th Graders, with each student having a commemorative “Then & Now” photo collage displayed.
All 8th grade students will receive a Class of 2029 t-shirt that they will wear on the class trip to Canobie Lake Park on Tuesday, June 17. More information on this trip will be sent home directly from the school.
The ceremony will be held on the E-Field outfield (next to Kid’s Club) in Bedford at 5:00 pm on Monday, June 16, 2025. Parents and extended family are invited to attend. Following the ceremony there will be an 8th Grade Student-Only Celebration in the rear parking lot and fields of JGMS from 6:00 pm -7:30 pm. The event will be chaperoned by JGMS staff and will include a cookout dinner, yard games, DJ, and a photo booth.
The events of Moving On will be “tropical summer” themed, and we encourage all who attend to dress in festive attire. Parents are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on for the ceremony (on the field). In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the BHS gym and the party will be held inside JGMS (with limited capacity for the ceremony).
To help make Moving On a success, we need YOUR HELP! Each family is asked to donate $50 to cover expenses associated with Moving On (catering, entertainment, t-shirts, decorations, etc.).
We also have lots of opportunities for 8th grade caregivers to volunteer and help make Moving on fantastic for our children.
● Donate Yard Games (for party after ceremony; all donated items will be returned)
● Provide sweet treats, snacks, and beverages for the party.
● Day of volunteers (to help set up the games, food tables, and accept donations from parents before the ceremony).
More information on Moving On will be sent periodically between now and June 16. Caregivers, please complete our Moving On 2025 form by Thursday, May 1 (for RSVPs, T-shirt orders, and more Moving On info).
Then & Now photo project: please email two photos of your student (1 recent and 1 from earlier in their childhood), we are also collecting candid photos of 8th graders participating in activities, sports, etc. (alone or with friends). Photos can be emailed directly to jgmsmovingon@gmail.com. Please include the following in your email: Student First and Last Name; 1 recent photo, 1 photo from the past, 2-3 candid photos.
Family monetary contributions can be made on the MSPA website or through venmo @JohnGlennMSPA.
Sign Ups for yard games, refreshments, day of help, etc. will be sent out closer to the date.

To help us prepare, we invite all attendees to submit any questions or concerns they have about the college transition process. These will be compiled into a document for the participating colleges, enabling them to better address the needs of our families. A second document will also be created, providing families with a guide of questions to ask about accessing support services.
