๐ MAP Testing Week
This week marks MAP Testing Week at Horizon Leadership Academy. MAP assessments help us measure student growth, guide instruction, and better support individual learning needs.
We appreciate our families for ensuring students arrive at school on time, well-rested, and ready to focus. Consistency at home makes a bigger impact on student success than any single test ever could, and your partnership truly matters.
๐ Student Authors Achievement
We are proud to announce that our 2nd and 3rd grade students have officially published their very own book titled
The Aliens Horizon of the Planets from the 7 Seas.
The printed books have arrived at our school, and our students are excited to see their creativity and hard work come to life. This project strengthened writing skills, imagination, collaboration, and confidence.

๐ค FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Competition
Our FIRST LEGO League Challenge team competed last Saturday and did an outstanding job representing Horizon Leadership Academy.
During the first round, students confidently presented their Innovation Project, robot design, and core values, showcasing strong teamwork, creativity, and communication skills. On the competition field, students tested their robot by running coded programs and demonstrated impressive problem-solving and technical abilities.
We are very proud of our studentsโ hard work and dedication. Competition results will be announced soon, and we are excitedly awaiting the next stage of the competition.
๐ฏ Focus on Growth & Responsibility
As we move through January, students are refocusing on goals, strengthening habits, and taking ownership of their learning. Our continued focus includes:
Punctuality and daily attendance
Respectful behavior and classroom engagement
Perseverance in academic and personal challenges
๐ Athletics Highlights ๐
During the month of January, both our Boys and Girls Basketball teams competed in their group stage games and successfully completed this phase of the season.
We are proud to share that our Girls Basketball team has advanced to the playoffs, with playoff games scheduled to take place in February.
Meanwhile, our Soccer teams continue their training sessions, with games beginning in February. This season, Horizon Leadership Academy will participate with both Elementary and Middle School Boys Soccer teams.
We are excited for a busy and successful February and appreciate the continued support of our students, families, and staff.
๐งฎ Math Competitions
Horizon Leadership Academy students will participate in two major math competitions at the end of January, showcasing their problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and mathematical thinking.
๐
January 27 โ AMC 8 (American Mathematics Competition 8)
The AMC 8 is a prestigious national math competition for middle school students (grades 8 and below). It is a 25-question, 40-minute multiple-choice exam that focuses on creative problem-solving rather than memorization. Questions cover topics such as geometry, probability, estimation, and introductory algebra.
Participation in AMC 8 helps students build confidence and serves as an important foundation for future advanced mathematics competitions.
๐
January 31 โ MathCounts Competition
Our students are also preparing for the MathCounts Competition on January 31, 2026, hosted in the Greater Houston area and sponsored by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. This yearโs event will include approximately 420 students from 65 schools, making it a highly competitive and exciting experience.
Through MathCounts, students apply logical reasoning, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a challenging and collaborative environment. We are proud of our Mathletes for their dedication and hard work as they represent Horizon Leadership Academy.
๐ง Mental Wellness Week
Horizon Leadership Academy will observe Mental Wellness Week, focusing on emotional well-being, self-awareness, and healthy coping strategies.
Throughout the week, students will engage in age-appropriate activities that promote calmness, self-expression, creativity, and gratitude. Daily practices include motivational messages, calming moments, and opportunities for students to reflect, express themselves, and build positive habits.
Activities will encourage:
Mindfulness and relaxation
Healthy ways to manage stress
Creative expression through writing, drawing, and art
Positive thinking and gratitude
Mental Wellness Week supports our commitment to nurturing not only academic success, but also the social and emotional well-being of our students.
