Contemporary Classes at KJ Dance

2026-2027 KJ DANCE Save the Dates

Welcome to another exciting dance season at KJ Dance! We are so excited to watch your dancer learn, grow, and shine in their Contemporary class this year. Contemporary is a beautiful and expressive dance style that encourages dancers to develop strong technique while exploring creativity, artistry, and emotional expression through movement. Please take a look at the class description below, and as always, let us know if you have any questions!

Contemporary

Our Contemporary classes blend elements of modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet to create a dynamic and expressive style of movement. Dancers will strengthen their technique while developing fluidity, musicality, flexibility, and body awareness. Through improvisation, choreography, and artistic exploration, dancers learn to connect movement with emotion, encouraging creativity, confidence, and personal artistry in a supportive and inspiring environment.

What should my dancer wear to class each week?

Contemporary Attire

Please have your dancer dressed and ready for class in the following attire:

Loose, comfortable athletic clothing that allows for freedom of movement
Socks or bare feet
Hair pulled back in a neat ponytail, with all hair secured away from the face

No special shoes are required for Contemporary classes.

Will my dancer have a performance at the end of the year?

YES! All Contemporary dancers will participate in the KJ End-of-Year Concert!

If your dancer is enrolled in one Contemporary class each week, they will perform one routine in the concert. This exciting performance is a wonderful opportunity for dancers to showcase everything they have learned throughout the season while building confidence, expressing their artistry, and creating lasting memories on stage.

We can't wait to celebrate your dancer's hard work at this special end-of-year event!

What if my dancer wants to take another class each week?

Many of our Contemporary dancers choose to add a Technical Jazz, Lyrical, or Ballet class to their weekly schedule. These classes are the perfect complement to Contemporary and help dancers continue building technique, strength, flexibility, artistry, and performance quality.

Our KJ faculty carefully designs the class schedule so dancers can often attend classes back-to-back, making it convenient for families. If your dancer would like to add another class, simply take a look at the schedule immediately before or after their current Contemporary class—many times there is a perfect option available!

If you need help finding the best fit, our office staff is always happy to assist with scheduling.

Concert Bonus: Dancers enrolled in additional classes will perform an additional routine in the KJ End-of-Year Concert, giving them even more opportunities to grow, perform, and shine on stage.

Can my dancer bring a friend to dance?

Absolutely! Dance is always more fun with friends, and we'd love for your dancer to invite a buddy to join them!

Friends can always try a class for FREE! They will simply create an account at kjdance.com, add their dancer, and select the Drop-In class they'd like to attend. Our faculty will be notified of the trial and will be ready to welcome them.

If your friend loves class, they can easily enroll online or contact our office for assistance. We can't wait to welcome them to the #THEKJWAY family!

What if my dancer misses a class?

No worries! We would love for your dancer to make up any missed Contemporary class.

To schedule a makeup class, simply log in to your Studio Director account, select "Makeup Class," and choose another Contemporary class or another class that works best for your family's schedule.

We look forward to welcoming your dancer back to the studio soon!
