Message from the Principal
Greetings SMS Families,
We want to keep our 8th-grade students and their families informed about some exciting events coming up at SMS!
8th-Grade Semi-Formal Dance: The semi-formal dance will take place on June 13 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the SMS Café. This event is exclusively for 8th-grade students. Students are welcome to bring an 8th-grade guest from another district. To do so, they must visit the school office and pick up the “out-of-district” permission form. The completed form should be submitted by Friday, June 6. Tickets for the dance are $10 and will be available for purchase from June 9 to June 11. The ticket price includes refreshments and snacks.
8th Grade Moving-Up Ceremony: The moving-up ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 25, at 8:00 am in the SMS Gym. Students should attend the rehearsal on Tuesday, June 24, at 8:00 am in the gym. Casual attire is acceptable for the rehearsal, but, if possible, students should dress more formally for the moving-up ceremony on June 25. Parents may take their child home directly after the ceremony. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the SMS office.
We look forward to celebrating these special moments with our 8th-grade students and their families!
Sincerely,
Dr. Fisher

Eighth-grade students recently returned from a fun and educational trip to Washington D.C.! The students visited the museums and monuments that bring their social studies lessons to life in the nation's capital.

Kids Can Make A Difference
Seventh-grade students are nearing completion of their Kids Can Make a Difference projects! Mr. Karb, Mrs. Lewandowski and Mrs. Gaffeny assigned the students the service project, which includes writing a business letter to a non-profit they are passionate about and performing 4-6 community service hours. Students raised awareness for Roswell Comprehensive Cancer Center, held a successful food drive for The Trading Post, sold handmade items to fundraise for the 10 Lives Club and the Southtowns Bark Park, volunteered with the Children's League and the East Concord Fire Department, and so much more!
Pageant of Bands
Please join us in congratulating all of the bands that participated in the 61st annual Pageant of Bands! There were three days of wonderful performances from area high school bands and a great parade to cap off the event. We are proud to host one of the longest-running pageants of its kind in New York State and showcase many of the area’s fine young musicians right here at SGI!

Cinco De Mayo
To celebrate Cinco De Mayo, Springville Middle School French and Spanish students participated in a flag war. The students snuck over to the other class's door to put flags on it in an attempt to win the war. Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, and this was a fun way for students to recreate this historical event!
TIES Cooking Class
Recently, TIES (Together Including Every Student) held a cooking class with the help of SGI Culinary! The students practiced knife skills and stove-top safety by making pico de gallo and cheese quesadillas. They finished off the cooking lesson with chocolate marshmallow microwave mug cakes!
