PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we move into Week 9 of the school year, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for your continued support and collaboration. Your active involvement makes a meaningful difference in our students’ learning journey, and we’re truly thankful to partner with you in creating a safe, nurturing, and successful school environment.

We sincerely appreciate all the parents and families who attended our Annual Title I Night. Your presence and engagement mean so much to us and plays a vital role in supporting our students’ success!

🔹 Student Conflict & Conduct

Please take a moment to speak with your student about handling conflict appropriately. The Code of Conduct applies not only on campus but also at the bus stop and during transportation to and from school. Any altercations in these settings are serious and may result in disciplinary action, including placement in an alternative school.

🔹 Book Bag Policy

Students must use clear or mesh book bags in accordance with school policy. This helps us maintain a safe and secure environment for all.

🔹 Cell Phone Use

Per state policy, students in grades K–8 are not permitted to use cell phones during school hours. Repeat violations may result in stricter consequences.

🔹 School-Issued Devices

Students are responsible for their school-issued devices while at school. Please remind your child to take care of their device and be mindful of their digital footprint. Damaged devices may result in fees or limited access to technology.

📈 Attendance Matters

We are working to decrease chronic absenteeism by 10%. Please ensure your child attends school daily. If your student is absent, be sure to send a written note. The district also allows for up to 5 remote learning days—if you have questions, please reach out to our Social Worker, Ms. Drayton.

Thank you again for your continued partnership.

Thank you so much!

Keenan Cameron, Principal

Attendance Awareness Month

September is Attendance Awareness month. Parents, did you know if your scholar misses 18 or more days, he/she is considered chronically absent? Scholars should miss no more than 8 days during the school year to stay engaged, successful, and on track to graduate. When students miss days, they miss quality instruction. Missing instructional time can impact your scholar’s success on tests and their confidence in their daily course work. Thus, parents, we are seeking your support to ensure your scholars remain under 8 to keep their attendance great for the school year!

In addition, at McNair, we strive to create a positive school climate for our scholars and teachers. So, we are excited to announce we will have our second annual “ICE-COLD” Ice Cream Social for students with perfect attendance. ICE COLD stands for:

“I. Come. Every day. Capable. On-Time. Listening and Determined”.

ICE COLD Astros should come to school, on time every day. As a school wide incentive, scholars with Perfect attendance (O days missed or no more than one excused absence) from Sept 1st to September 30th will be invited to enjoy our “Ice-Cold” Social on October 3rd. This event will be hosted by Communities in Schools (CISA) and McNair’s PBIS team. Scholars will have the opportunity to make their own Sundae and receive goodies during connections. Scholars will also receive PBIS points for being on time to Homeroom daily, which allows them to purchase future events or items. We look forward to celebrating your scholar and celebrating you this month!

ALL IN ON ATTENDANCE – Building Strong Routines

September is the perfect time to set consistent morning and bedtime routines that make school attendance a natural habit. Students who start the year strong are more likely to maintain excellent attendance all year long.

Students who miss fewer than 5 days in the first semester are 3 times more likely to stay on track in reading and math.

The late bell rings at 8:55 am. Students should be in their classroom ready to learn at that time.

When your scholar is absent, please email [reidd12@fultonschools.org/colemane1@fultonschools.org] and copy your child’s teacher.

Canvas Parent

Families now have Parent Observer accounts in Canvas, and we are making access even easier. A Canvas Parent icon has been added to the McNair website homepage. Families can find it just below the school photo, between the Menus and Campus Portal buttons. This new feature provides a direct and convenient way for families to log in and stay connected to their student’s learning.

Please use the flyer below for additional instructions.
