What Are...Horoscopes?
By Olivia
We have a new member of our Newsletter Team, Savannah Kulage who will be writing a new feature on Horoscopes. So what is a person's horoscope?
Horoscopes are based off of people's Zodiac signs. What is a Zodiac sign? According to the website, Britannica, in astrology, which is "the the study of the positions and movements of the sun, moon, planets, and stars, and the belief that these celestial bodies affect people's lives and personalities", the sign of the Zodiac under which a person is born is of great significance. To determine a person's sign, the Zodiac is divided into twelve different signs occupying 1/12 of it's great circle (see image). Originally there were 13 signs but then to align with a 12 month calendar one of the signs, the Ophiuchus, snake charmer, was removed. The current 12 signs are:
Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18)
Pisces (Feb. 19 - March 20)
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Tores (April 20 - May 20)
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Cancer (June 1 - July 22)
Leo (July 23 - Aug. 22)
Virgo (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22)
Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22)
Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22)
Sagittarius (Nov. 23 - Dec. 21)
Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)

Teacher Interview - Mrs. Ferris
by Maddy, Rory, Cece, Savannah and Olivia
1. What do you like about being a science teacher?
I have always enjoyed learning and have been fascinated by the different branches of science. A special shout out to my Grandmother as well who always asked me "What did you learn today?" I love the awesomeness of helping students develop important skills like critical thinking, analyzing information and discovering new connections and information about the world around them.
2. What is your favorite Science topic and why?
That's tough but I think our "What is Life?" Unit. This is when students learn about the characteristics of organisms, cell types, structures and functions.
3. We know you also run the Escape Room club. What's your favorite thing about Escape Rooms?
My favorite thing about running the Escape Room club is much like my favorite thing about teaching Science. I love the unfolding of all the good things and the growth that can come from challenges, questions and discoveries.
4. Have you ever met anyone famous? If so, who and how did you meet them?
I used to work at the restaurant Mount Blue (now the Tinkers Son) and it was owned by some of the members of the band Aerosmith. When they were in the area, some of the band members would come into the restaurant so they could have a place to escape from the limelight.
5. What is one fun fact about you?
Related to the above question, I spilled a drink on the lead singer of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler. It wasn't "fun" then, but I can laugh about it now.

Lunar New Year Poem - presented by Cece
The moon is full, the sky is bright
It's Lunar New Year, a joyful night.
Red Lanterns glow, the dragon prances,
Dancing, twirling and taking chances.
Fireworks sparkle in the air,
The sound of drums are everywhere.
Families gather full of cheer,
To welcome a brand new year.
Lets sing and cheer
For the Lunar New Year
That's finally here!
