Save the Date! Special Evening Concert for Primary Families!
Families Need to RSVP by Friday, May 17th
Jim Gill, is a performer we have had at Primary during the day for our students for several years. His concerts are engaging and fun for everyone in the family! We are hosting a special concert for Primary families only on Tuesday, May 21st at 5:30 p.m. The concert will last around 45 minutes and will be held in our school gym. We think this is a fun way for our families to enjoy some time together. Save the date and join us!
First Grade Visits!
Our kindergarten students will be traveling safely across the street next week to visit the Elementary School. Our staff travels with them, we wear safety vests, use our crossing stop sign and make the trip together. This has been a tradition at Primary and Elementary for years!
Monolingual kindergarten will visit Elementary on Tuesday, May 21st. Dual Language kindergarten will visit on Wednesday, May 22nd. They don't go to specific classrooms, it's a global visit getting to know the Elementary School, the Administrative team and more. This is always a great way to motivate our students for the next chapter. First grade here we come!
First Grade-Making the Transition
As the end of the year comes closer, we begin to work with our students to help them transition to first grade and going across the street to Woodland Elementary. We have created the class lists as a team, taking input from all of our sources. This includes reviewing parent requests, teacher suggestions, medical information, academic and social needs and more. What it all comes down to is that when we place our students, we do what we think is best for their learning experience.
Regarding friendships, students know so many of their peers here at Primary. They know more than just the students in their class, they go to recess with friends from other classes, they attend PE with buddy classes, they see each other at lunch and we meet as a whole grade level monthly. School is about making friendships, trying new experiences and learning.
Our kindergarten teachers met with our first grade teachers to review student needs for next year. We also have visits planned for our students to go across the street to see the Elementary School and the first grade teachers. They will not be visiting specific classrooms, it's a global visit to get the idea of what first grade looks like.
We are very excited to support our students' transition to first grade. You can help by reminding them how much growth they have made this year, they can do this! Keep the excitement about going to school and making new friends a priority so that they feel assured because you feel assured. They are going to love first grade!
