Food and Nutrition Updates
We have some exciting news! All students can receive a free breakfast at Lancashire this year through a state funding grant. This will be a "grab and go" breakfast. Students will "grab" their breakfast and eat in their classroom. It is important for students to arrive at school on time in order to grab their free breakfast!
Lunch, however, is not free for all. While Lancashire received state funds to cover the free breakfast costs for students. Lunch will be paid based on income eligibility. We are asking that families complete the Free & Reduced Meal Forms, which could qualify children for free or reduced lunch.

Meal Benefit Application Spanish SY24-25.pdf
We have also applied for a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant. This would provide a free fresh fruit or vegetable snack to all of our students during the school day (not during breakfast or lunch). We are hoping to hear back this month if we qualify. If we do, the program will start after Labor Day. I will keep you posted!
Take a Peek Night, August 21, 2024 6:00 -7:00 PM
Once again, we are inviting our grades K-5 school community to come in on Thursday, August 21st, from 6:00 -7:00. This will be an opportunity for you and your children to spend some time together, find the classrooms, and explore the building. Please understand that classrooms will not be finished, and this is not a time for parent conferences.
Tables will be set up in the gym with a staff member who will give you your child’s classroom assignment. Class assignments will be available beginning at 6:00.
If you are unable to come to the school on this day, you can contact the school on August 22nd for the information.
Student Day Reminders:
Student Day ~ 8:40am—3:30pm
Arrival Procedures
- Students will be permitted in the building beginning at 8:40 AM. Parents should be aware that prior to 8:40 AM, there is no supervision provided for students. Therefore, no student should be dropped off and left unattended.
- Upon arrival, students should "grab and go" their breakfast items and walk quietly to their classrooms, gather morning materials, use bathrooms, and get ready for the school day.
Attendance
Under Delaware law, students between the ages of 5 and 16 are required to attend some form of schooling. To start school, the child must be 5 years old by August 31. Students 16 to 18 years old must attend some form of schooling unless they have written permission from their parents to the contrary.
A student who has four (4) unexcused absences in a school year is considered truant. If a child is truant, parents/guardians and students may be subjected to legal action. Please contact your child’s school with questions about your child’s attendance record.
All absences require an on-line absence form to be submitted directly to the school or a parent note, or a professional provider excuse note submitted.
- Please send these notes to our attendance secretary, Ms. Patricia Spratley, at Patricia.Spratley@bsd.k12.de.us.
- You can also use the BSD link to complete and document your student's absence: https://www.brandywineschools.org/families/absence-request-form
Please do not send in your student's absence note via Classroom DOJO.
You may contact our school with any questions regarding your child’s attendance or the attendance policies.
Tardiness
- Being punctual is important. Arriving at class after 8:55 a.m. is considered late, and the student must obtain a late pass from the Main Office.
Early Dismissal
- Photo identification is required to pick up your child.
- Should it be necessary for a student to be released from school before the regular time, the student must give the homeroom teacher a request signed by the parent or legal guardian.
- Requests must be made no later than 2:45 for an early dismissal.
- Verbal requests will not be honored without a signed, written request.
- The written request must state the time and reason for the early dismissal. Parents picking up their child for early dismissal must go to the main office at the appropriate time. The student will be called from his/her classroom to the office. Parents must then sign the student “out” on the appropriate form in the main office.
- Students will not be released to parents directly from the classroom.
- Parents picking up children at recess must sign out their child in the main office first, and then wait in the Main Office for their child to come in from recess.
