Important Announcement

Dear Nichols Community,

I am writing to share an important update regarding our planned Hispanic Heritage Family Day.

Out of an abundance of caution and due to mounting concerns related to the presence of ICE in the City of Chicago and surrounding areas, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the Hispanic Heritage Family Day originally scheduled for Saturday, October 18th.

As a school, the safety and welfare of every person who is a part of the Nichols community—our students, families, and staff—is our number one priority. We cannot put our community at risk. While we are disappointed to cancel a Nichols Community event, we believe this decision is necessary to ensure everyone remains safe.

We were, however, thrilled to celebrate with our students during our wonderful Hispanic Heritage Month assemblies. Our students did a magnificent job of presenting the history of Hispanic Heritage Month, performing songs, and reading powerful poems that represent the various cultures within the Latin X community. This event was a true testament to the talent and cultural richness within our school.

Please know that this cancellation does not diminish our commitment to celebrating diversity. We will absolutely continue to celebrate and uplift our Latin X students, families, and staff members throughout the year. We are already looking forward to future opportunities to gather and recognize the invaluable contributions of this community.

Thank you for your understanding and continuous support of the Nichols community. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the main office.

Sincerely,

Ms. Fishman
