MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Franklin Students and Families,
I know that students and families may be feeling fearful of reports of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity that is happening around our city. Please know that when your student is here on campus, we will do everything we can to keep them safe. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to me at znaegele@pps.net or call the main office (503) 916-5140. We know each family needs to do what is best for them, and we want to also let you know that we want your student at school.
As a reminder, we do not work with or share any information about you or your child with the
Department of Homeland Security or ICE without a valid judicial warrant.
Below are trusted resources and information to help navigate this challenging situation:

In the midst of these challenging times, I’d like to also highlight that in November and everyday we honor and celebrate our Native students and staff. One way we do that is by incorporating Native history and perspectives as part of culturally responsive curriculum and instruction. We can also visit and participate in community events and activities. The Portland Art Museum houses a Native American Art collection encompassing over 3,500 ancient, historic and contemporary objects originating from approximately 200 Indigenous cultural groups from across the Americas. Notable for its depth and breadth, the collection houses works by Native American masters such as Allan Houser, Charles Edenshaw, Maria Martinez, and Virgil Ortiz in addition to regional contemporary artists such as Lillian Pitt, Joe Feddersen, James Lavadour, Wendy Red Star, and Marie Watt. I hope that you can visit this amazing exhibit.
Lastly, I’d like to remind you that this is the opening weekend of our school musical The Drowsy Chaperone. There will be several opportunities this week and next week to come out and support Franklin students in the arts!
Thank you,
Dr. Z

SCHOOL INFORMATION
OPENING WEEKEND: The Drowsy Chaperone!
The Drowsy Chaperone is a meta-musical parody of 1920s musical comedies, where a musical theatre fan, the "Woman in Chair," listens to a record of a fictional 1928 show of the same name. As the music plays, the show comes to life in her apartment, featuring a young Broadway starlet Janet van de Graaff who wants to marry for love, her producer who needs her to stay in show business, her comically inebriated chaperone, a Latin lover, and gangsters. The audience experiences the 1920s musical through the Woman in Chair's commentary and reactions, which include observing its cliched plot, stock characters, and musical numbers, all while learning about the narrator's own melancholic life.
You have 6 chances to see the Franklin Theater Department's rendition of The Drowsy Chaperone:
- Friday, November 7th at 7:00 pm
- Saturday, November 8th at 7:00 pm
- Sunday, November 9th at 2:00 pm
- Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 pm
- Friday, November 14th at 7:00 pm
- Saturday, November 15th at 7:00 pm
