Since 2012, Las Animas School District has partnered with various local businesses and organizations to offer free, family friendly fun events to celebrate and promote healthy familial relationships and activities. Twice per year, LASD coordinates themed events that include opportunities to connect within their family, with other families and with community entities thru friendly competition, craft projects, free dinner and always include a family photo and some type of take home memento. We include support and reminders for students to learn about and exercise PRIDE (Positive, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, Excellence) at home, school and community. Past themes have included Color Fun, The Olympics, Harvest Festival and Breakfast with Santa.

Each year, the Bent County Christmas Angel Program supports families by providing Christmas gifts to children in Bent County. Las Animas School District feels incredibly fortunate to partner with these amazing businesses and programs: Bent County Core Civic, La Junta Big R, Las Animas Family Dollar, Colorado State Patrol, 1st National Bank of Las Animas, Bent County Public Health, LA-BC Library, The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, and the Las Animas High School for the toy drive during their Bingo Night. In addition, many individuals throughout the community support this program with gifts, monetary donations and time.

Las Animas Junior High and Las Animas High School hosted their 2nd Annual Bingo Night this past November, bringing together students, families, and staff for an evening of fun and connection. More than 200 community members attended the event, enjoying dinner and participating in multiple rounds of bingo, with prizes awarded throughout the night. The strong turnout reflected the positive spirit and growing tradition of family-centered events within the district.

The success of Bingo Night was made possible through generous community support, including donations from Bent County Extension, the Bent County Community Center, Resada, and funding from the Strengthening Families Grant awarded to the district. The schools will host a Cinco de Mayo Night on April 30. Junior high and high school families can look forward to playing Lotería, breaking piñatas, enjoying a meal, and winning prizes during another evening focused on family engagement and community celebration.
