Hardy HappeningsSeptember 15, 2025

Dear Hardy Families,

What an amazing turnout at Movie Night! We are especially grateful to the many families who completed their Live Scan—thank you for taking that important step to volunteer. If you have not heard from Susan Daly today, that means you are still missing paperwork in your volunteer application. Please read the information below for next steps.

We’re excited to share that Hardy has received an additional teacher allocation. We know change can be hard, and we want you to know these shifts are being made to create the best learning environment for all students and to meet our contractual obligations. We will be reorganizing K–2 classrooms in the coming weeks. The new teacher begins October 1, and all classrooms will move to their new placements on October 2. Students directly impacted by a schedule change will receive a letter during the last week of September, and families in affected classrooms will also get an email from their child’s teacher with details. Because these adjustments are needed to balance enrollment and maintain class size requirements, we cannot honor individual classroom placement requests. We will balance classrooms using the same process we follow each spring. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to provide the most effective learning experience for every student.

It’s almost time for our biggest fundraiser of the year—the APEX Jog-a-thon! This event fuels so many of the incredible programs and initiatives supported by our Hardy PTA and Dad’s Club. Please start preparing now by reaching out to family, friends, colleagues, and community connections who may be willing to contribute. Together, we can raise the funds needed to continue supporting the many opportunities that make Hardy such a special place for our students.

With gratitude,
Mrs. Aragon

Help Bring A Motor Lab to Hardy! Movement for Focus: DonorsChoose Project

We’re excited to share a new opportunity to support our students through a DonorsChoose campaign.

Our teachers have launched a project called “Wiggles to Focus: A Motor Lab for Success”, designed to help students strengthen their focus and self-regulation skills through purposeful movement.

This project will provide tools and resources for a motor lab where students can get the movement breaks they need to return to class ready to learn. These supports are especially valuable for students who benefit from sensory input, structured activity, and opportunities to release energy in positive ways.

You can learn more about the project and, if you feel inspired, make a donation here: Wiggles to Focus: A Motor Lab for Success.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps bring us closer to creating this new space for students.

Thank you for always supporting our Owls and the programs that make Hardy a great place to learn and grow!

Stock the Hardy Staff Snack Shack!

September is TK families’ month to help stock the Hardy Staff Lounge. Let’s support our amazing staff by keeping the lounge filled with snacks and drinks.

Please consider grabbing a few individually wrapped items on your next grocery run. Donations can be dropped off in the office and will go straight to the lounge for staff to enjoy.

Suggested items include coffee pods and creamer, granola bars, chips, nuts, pretzels, popcorn, trail mix, tea, soda, and bubbly water. Thank you, TK families, for showing your appreciation and fueling our Hardy team!

Absences and Independent Study Contracts (ISCs)

The only way to clear an absence—even an excused one—is through an Independent Study Contract (ISC). If your family has a planned absence, you must notify the office at least one week in advance so the contract and assignments can be prepared. Last-minute requests (for example, asking the morning before a vacation) will not be approved except in true emergencies.

If you are unable to request an ISC ahead of time, you can still complete one after your child returns, but it is your responsibility to ensure the work is finished and turned in before the absences can be cleared.

Please remember: two absences per month means your student is considered chronically absent. Help us reduce chronic absenteeism and keep students learning by planning ahead and requesting ISCs on time.

Volunteer Clearance Next Steps

We are thrilled to share that 52 families completed Live Scan at movie night on Friday. Incredible job, Hardy community.

Many applications still need paperwork. If you have not heard from Susan Daly, Hardy Elementary school assistant, by today, you are likely missing a required form. Please stop by the office so we can review your packet together, confirm what is missing, and get everything ready for processing.

Traffic and parking reminder

Please do not park in the red zone in the morning or afternoon to walk in or pick up. Your two options are to drive onto the blacktop and park, or use the traffic circle.

Our school resource officer and Jerry, our amazing custodian, are enforcing our traffic policies. Please support them by following the system and leaving a little earlier so you have time to use the traffic circle.

Dropping students at the front curb means that those cars cut off drivers already in the circle. Officer Skinner will be observing our traffic patterns. We want to avoid citations, but they may be issued for repeated violations. Thank you for your cooperation.

APEX Jog-A-Thon is Coming!

We are excited to launch this year’s Jog-a-thon. Our fundraising goal is $37,000, with a stretch goal of $40,000. PTA funds are crucial for field trips and transportation, classroom supplies, back-to-school kickoffs, family and community events, school upgrades, staff support, student recognition, and so much more.

We also aim to expand enrichment opportunities like STEM and additional VAPA. In addition, the PTA , in partnership with the Hardy site budget, funds large curriculum licenses such as i-Ready for grades K–5, and we hope to purchase research-based decodable texts to strengthen literacy instruction. A full i-Ready license is approximately $20,000, and decodable text sets are about $600 per classroom.

How can you help? Donate and spread the word. When your student receives their registration code in two weeks, please register right away and share your child’s fundraising link with family, friends, and colleagues. Know a business that might contribute? Reach out to them, too. Every bit helps.

Join in the fun and help Hardy secure the programs that make our school exceptional. Together, we can meet our $40,000 stretch goal and continue providing enriching experiences for our students.

🦉 PTA Highlights: Thanks for Showing Up, Hardy!

🍕 Dine-Out Night Success!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Woodstock’s Pizza on Sep 3rd. Our group’s total sales were just under $2,000, and 20% of that comes right back to us; that’s raised $395 to support student programs at Hardy! Mark your calendars for the next one on Oct 1 at Sala Thai!

🎬 Movie Night Recap
Friday’s Garfield screening was a hit! We loved seeing so many families (especially new faces!) enjoying the movie, snacks, and school spirit. Huge thanks to Dad’s Club for organizing and for the popcorn & pizza, and to our amazing 5th graders for running the candy and nacho sales!

⛏️PTA Membership - We’re leveling up!
Our PTA is at 95 members and we would love to pass 100 by the end of this week! Who’s going to help push us into triple digits? Every membership powers up our school, supports our kids and teachers, and brings us closer to our ultimate goal of 130. Don’t wait, join today!

📣 Room Reps Needed
We’re still looking for Room Reps to help share school updates and coordinate occasional classroom communications.
If you’re interested, you can:

  • ✅ Check the Room Rep box on the Volunteer Interest Form, or

  • 💬 Connect with your student’s teacher directly

We know there may still be classroom changes, and that’s okay. Room Reps can be temporary, shared, or flexible; we’d just love to have a few folks in place as soon as possible to help us keep families in the loop.

🏃‍♀️ Jog-a-Thon is Coming!
Mark your calendars: Hardy’s biggest fundraiser of the year kicks off Monday, Sep 29! The Jog-a-Thon (aka Owl Run) itself will take place Wednesday, Oct 8. For two weeks leading up to the event, our partners at APEX will be on campus leading leadership lessons and building school spirit. Every student participates, and funds raised support student programs at Hardy. Stay tuned for details next week on how to get involved!
