The Weekly Update #4

No School September 7th
No School September 21st
The first few weeks of school are always exciting. Students are learning new routines, getting to know their teachers and classmates, making new friends, and settling into the rhythm of a new school year. While there are always a few reminders, questions, and adjustments along the way, we are so proud of how our students have jumped right in!
A new school year brings new opportunities. It is a chance for students to try something new, challenge themselves, make a new friend, discover a new interest, and grow a little more each day. Our goal is not only to help students become strong readers, writers, mathematicians, and problem solvers, but also to help them become kind, responsible, confident, and caring.
We Are Better Together!
One of the things that makes James Gettys special is the partnership between our students, families, teachers, staff, and community. When we work together, our students benefit. Thank you to our families for getting children ready each morning, making sure they arrive at school ready to learn, encouraging them at home, attending school events, and supporting our teachers and staff.
📅In the coming weeks, please keep an eye out for updates about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and any important announcements. If you ever have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to the office staff or your child's teacher.
🪪Just a reminder if you are coming into our building and never have been passed the office doors before, you will be required to show your ID.
🕤If your child is tardy to school or absent, please turn in your written excuse or Doctors note to the office. If arriving after 8:40am that is considered late and your child will need an excuse or it will be unexcused. After 5 unexcused tardies, a meeting with the guidance counslor, Mrs.Effinger will be set up - that a guardian must attend.
⛅With the change of the weather, your child is most likely removing their sweatshirt or jacket during the day. Please have your child check the lost and found if you notice them missing anything. Our lost and found table already has a pile of sweatshirts on it, waiting to be found.
Student Handbook
We would like to make our families aware of a new change in the handbook this year. This one is regarding the new photo and media use procedures. There will no longer be paper copies to sign or an option to opt out online.
Please see the snapshot below for more detailed information.

Breakfast
Breakfast is free for every student!
Breakfast to go arts are placed in the hallways
for students that would like to just
grab a bag and go to the classroom.
Breakfast is also served in the cafeteria.
A breakfast menu can be found
on our schools website under Food Services.
Lunch Survey
We welcome parents and guardians to join their child for lunch during the school year.
To help us prepare for visitors and maintain a safe and orderly lunch environment, all lunch visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by completing the Lunch Visitor Request Form (linked below). Form won't be accesable until September 1st.
Visitors must check in at the main office upon arrival and obtain a visitor's badge before proceeding to the cafeteria.
To ensure consistency and avoid concerns related to food allergies, student requests, and equity among students, outside meals purchased from restaurants or other food establishments may not be brought into the cafeteria for a lunch visit.
Visitors are welcome to enjoy the school lunch with their child and may purchase a school meal at the current district lunch price.
From the Nurse
All New Kindergartners need to have their current immunizations, physicals and dental exams up to date. Please send in a copy so we can have it on file.
Any students needing medications during the school day must have a medical permission form filled out by their physician. We have those available in the office, or they can be found on the schools website.
Fever: A child should stay home with a temperature over 100. Colds, coughs, and sore throats are common in children, and do not require that they stay home. However, if cold symptoms include a fever, or is excessive enough it is disrupting their learning, you should keep your child at home to rest.
Mobile Dentist permission forms will be going home soon, please check your child's folders.
Please feel free to call with any questions or concerns you may have.
