Good Morning Memorial Families,

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is upon us already. We hope that this week is truly wonderful for all of our Memorial families, and that you find joy in the small moments that make this time of year special. In the spirit of being thankful, Lauren and I would like to thank all of our families for the many ways you support our school, our educators, and our children. The fundraising efforts to provide special enrichment programs and supply extra materials for the classrooms that are not covered out of the regular budget are hugely impactful to our students and our staff. We appreciate any time that you give freely for volunteering in our classrooms. Teaching is a very rewarding and also very busy profession. Taking time to make photocopies, or read to a class, or to be an extra set of hands goes a long way towards helping ease the busy-ness that all teachers feel- especially this time of year! And we are also just so grateful that you send your children to school each day ready to learn. We both have the privilege of being out front every morning to see the smiling faces getting out of the cars. The smiles and “good mornings” are infectious and help everyone to get off to a positive start to the day. Our families and our students are a blessing to us.

As we mentioned last week, we will be presenting our elementary school improvement plan to the school committee tonight. We are really excited about the work that we are engaging in to best support our students and look forward to sharing this year’s plan, which is the start of what we see as a multi-year plan to support all students. You can watch the meeting on YouTube if you are interested. We will also have an adorable student presentation at the start of the meeting. Kindergartener Christalia Pike, Second grader Clayton O’Connor, Third grader Mikey McGann, and Fourth graders Scarlett O’Connor and Tian Ta will be sharing about our Kindness Fundraiser. This was a new idea brought by our PTO to have students be sponsored for completing acts of kindness. We thought we would try it out this year, and we raised over $10,000! We are looking forward to thinking about how we can make this even bigger next year and get us all working towards bringing more kindness everywhere. Be sure to tune into the meeting to see these cuties share how they spread kindness over the past month.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. There will not be an update next week. The next Memorial Newsletter will be sent on Monday, December 5th.

Warmly,

Wendy and Lauren

A Note From Mrs. Ryan

Recently, DESE provided all school districts in the state with an opportunity to receive at-home COVID-19 test kits for their school community. These tests are intended for use by students and staff to support the return to school process after Thanksgiving and winter breaks. This is a voluntary testing program and is not required prior to your child’s return. If you choose to participate, DESE recommends that tests be used no sooner than 24 hours prior to returning to school after these holiday breaks.

Each student and staff member will receive one iHealth test kit to take home on Tuesday, November 22nd. Each kit contains two COVID-19 tests. If you choose not to participate, please feel free to donate the test kit to someone else or dispose of it. Should your child test positive, please contact your school nurse to review the isolation protocols and determine a return to school date.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community healthy.
