PJHS ParentNewsletterNovember 2025

We are grateful for your partnership and the support you provide every day. Below are a few important updates, celebrations, and reminders to help keep everyone informed and connected.

Important Announcements Important Announcements

  • Lost & Found: Our lost and found pile is growing quickly. Please remind your student to put personal items in their locker, and if something is missing, have them check the lost and found this week. Everything will be laid out for claim this week. Items not claimed by the end of the week will be donated to the mission.
  • Assignment Completion: Please continue to talk with your student about completing assignments. Many failing grades result from not attempting work rather than inability. It’s important students understand assignments are not optional. Working together—home and school—will help our students be successful.
  • Weather & Outerwear: It’s getting colder. Students will continue to go outside as much as possible, so please remind them to bring coats, gloves, hats, and any other needed outerwear each day.
  • 2nd Quarter Progress Reports: These will be sent home next Friday, the 21st.

Celebrations Celebrations

1st Quarter Honor Roll: We are proud to share strong results across grade levels:

  • 6th grade: 41% on the Honor Roll
  • 7th grade: 41% on the Honor Roll
  • 8th grade: 50% on the Honor Roll
To celebrate, students enjoyed an afternoon at the park—thank you to everyone who helped make that a meaningful experience! We will continue to celebrate students who achieve this honor every quarter!

2025 IAR/ISA Data — Commendable Status: Great news — our school received a Commendable status this year. All grade levels met the state’s proficiency targets for math, ELA, and 8th grade science. We also saw year‑to‑year growth in ELA and math. You can view the full report card here: Illinois Report Card. We are grateful for the hard work of our students and the partnership of families and staff that helped make this possible.

  • Veterans Day Assembly: Thank you to the Panther Den for hosting our annual Veterans Day assembly earlier this week. We appreciated the presentations and enjoyed performances by the choir and band. It was a respectful and memorable program.
  • Evening Basketball Eligibility: We run a weekly eligibility report for students who wish to attend evening basketball games at PJHS. Students may not attend if any of the following apply on the day of the game:
    • They are failing a class
    • They received a behavior referral that day
    • They were absent that day
Please remind students to check their eligibility and address any concerns with teachers or the office before game day.
  • Thanksgiving Break: Students will be dissmissed at 2:38 pm on Tuesday, November 25th. School will not be in session Wednesday, November 26th - Friday, Neovember 28th.

Thank you for your ongoing support in partnering with us to ensure every student thrives. We appreciate the time you take to talk with your child about school, celebrate successes, and reinforce expectations at home.

Youth and Generative AI: A Guide for Parents and Educators - Children and Screens

The introduction of free, publicly available generative artificial intelligence technologies (aka Gen AI) like ChatGPT has spurred experimentation and use of these powerful tools by curious users of all ages. While many have found generative AI tools useful for certain tasks and as productivity time-savers, there is significant concern about the implications of children using generative AI during critical periods of social learning and skill development, as well as about deployment of these technologies without a strong body of research into their potential risks.
