News from the Principal

Greetings WE Families,

It was such a great time at the Holi Festival on Saturday. The weather was wonderful, and the children and adults enjoyed celebrating Spring. Now we just need our weather to cooperate for our Family Picnic this weekend. The Book Fair is up and running. I am hearing many conversations about the book titles that the children are looking forward to reading.

Welcome to Ms. Julia McDaniel, our New School Health Aide. She is a great fit for our clinic, and our students have already gotten to know her. She is settling into our Westchester Crew.

We have had an amazing Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. The WE Crew is truly spoiled by our parents and families. Thank you so much for supporting us in the many ways that you all do.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for these upcoming Westchester events:

  • March 18-24th: Book Fair (Open Saturday)

  • March 21st: Family Picnic

  • March 25th: Early Release

  • March 27th: Community Circle

From your very grateful principal,

Christine Knox

The picnic is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday on the field near the playground. People can bring blankets, and they need to provide their own lunches and drinks. And the book fair will be open!

📚 Spring Into Reading: Our Book Fair is Here! 📚 Spring Into Reading: Our Book Fair is Here!

It’s time to grow those home libraries! We are thrilled to announce that our Spring Book Fair is officially open in partnership with our favorite local bookstore, Little Shop of Stories. This spring we are trying out a smaller-sized book fair at the school. Therefore, I wanted to share with you how you can select any book you are looking to purchase and benefit our school!

This is the perfect opportunity to snag those high-interest chapter books, beautiful picture books, or even the latest graphic novels—all while supporting Westchester Elementary.

How to Shop and Support Westchester

In-person shopping is easy, and every single book on the website qualifies for our fundraiser. Whether you’re buying a classic or a new release, your purchase makes a difference.

  1. Visit the Website: Go to littleshopofstories.com/schools.

  2. Browse & Select: Add your favorite titles to your cart.

  3. Enter the Code: At checkout, simply type "Westchester" in the promo code/school code box.

  4. Give Back: A portion of all proceeds will go directly toward supporting our school programs and library!

Why Shop the Online Fair?

  • Massive Selection: You aren't limited to a small catalog; shop the entire Little Shop of Stories inventory!

  • Local Love: You are supporting a wonderful local Decatur business and our school at the same time.

  • Convenience: Shop from your couch and have books delivered right to your door (or choose in-store pickup).

Note: Please remember to enter the word Westchester at checkout so we get credit for your order!

Thank you for fostering a love of reading in our students and for your continued support of Westchester Elementary.

Happy Reading!
