Intended read time is less than 5 minutes.

Access the Practice-based Coaching Share Site for additional resources.

Reflecting back on your first several months of coaching, would it be helpful to address any of the following agreements/understandings moving forward with your coachee(s)?

  • What commitments are necessary for each partner to feel comfortable and supported? (In other words, what is ok and what is not?)
  • When and how will coaching sessions occur? (How often? For how long?)
  • How will each coaching partner prepare for goal setting, observations, and reflection and feedback discussions?
  • What information is confidential? What might be shared with others and in what way?
  • What data will be collected? How will it be used?

Just like teaching, coaching isn't 'cookie cutter.' For example, you may have one teacher who wants you, as the coach, to mostly observe and offer suggestions, while you might have another teacher who wants you to do more modeling and demonstration. How you support each teacher will depend on their skills, their needs, and their preferences.

Are you looking for examples of how to provide constructive feedback to coachees? Access the 'Constructive Feedback examples' from The Office of Head Start. Detailed examples are included in the linked handout.

Check out this 'Action Planning Quality Checklist' to help you fine-tune action plans you and your coachee teams develop. This could be a helpful tool to have with you when developing action plan goals.
