FROM THE PRINCIPAL FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hello Families!

I hope you have been able to enjoy this weather. I know this time of year brings many opportunities to get outside with pumpkin patches, corn mazes, football games, and any other excuse to get out and enjoy the scenery. I am hoping Halloween has some mild weather in store for all of us.

Thanks for all the collaboration with conferences last week. These conference sessions are great for all of us as we want to continue a strong partnership with each of you as we watch your children grow in their reading, writing, math, science, and character skills.

With having the daytime parent-teacher conferences for the first time, we'd love to hear your thoughts! Please take a moment to complete our quick 5-question survey to let us know how the new schedule worked for you and how we can continue supporting you.

With the weather changing, we ask that you continue to send your child with clothing that will accommodate the cooler temps. We do go outside for recess, and also for PE activities, as long as the temperature is above 0 degrees. I hope this change takes a while to get to us, but it is a good reminder as our students are loving the option to wear shorts with the current temps.

Beginning in November, we will be providing an after school program, Targeted Services. This is designed to help provide an extra scoop of support in reading and math for 1st and 2nd grade students. If you have any questions about this opportunity, please reach out to your child's teacher and they can provide more details.

Take care,

Shane Dordal

IPS Principal

Lately, in the library…….

Thank you for your support at our Book Fair! There was an amazing turnout, students were excited to shop during Media class and to shop with their families during conferences. The funds raised will go directly towards purchasing new books and supplies for our media center.

In 1st and 2nd grade, we will be reading all ten Star of the North book nominees. In March, students will be voting for their favorite. The Star of the North Picture Book Award was established in 2013. The purpose of the award is to promote quality, engaging picture books and reading for pleasure among school-aged children. The authors and illustrators must live in North America and the title copyrights must be from the previous 2 years.

Kindergarteners are working on searching the shelves for a book to check out, entering their codes in the pin pad and remembering to return their library books. They have also begun learning about Chromebooks and how to log into our digital education, single sign-on platform, Clever.

Field Trips

Students at Isanti Primary School recently engaged in exciting learning experiences beyond their usual classroom routines. Kindergarteners ventured out to the DNR, where they got hands-on experience learning about fire safety and how to extinguish fires. Meanwhile, first graders enjoyed a special in-house field trip featuring guest visitor Margaret Nelson from the East Central Regional Library in Cambridge, who shared wonderful books with them and highlighted how reading the same stories brings people together all across the world.

Arrival and Dismissal

ARRIVAL: For students being dropped off at school, the car line is located at the north end of the building (in the back) from 7:15 to 7:25 AM. Once the buses arrive, the drop off line ends and parents need to park in the gravel parking lot to the northeast of the building. Our crossing guard crosses parents and students from 7:15 - 7:30 AM to enter the building. The back doors lock at 7:30 AM. After 7:30 AM, students need to be brought to the front office (Door 1) for check in.

DISMISSAL: At 2:05 PM, students who ride the bus will be dismissed and buses will leave by 2:10 PM. Parent pick up, at the north end of the building, begins immediately following the exit of the buses. We will once again be using the car line code system. Only Compass Learning and Little Sprouts daycare buses will be in the front of the building to pick up students who attend their childcare centers. Walkers who reside south of IPS are dismissed to the front. Walkers that live north of IPS are dismissed out the back.

Parent Pick-Up

This year you will see a slight change with our parent pick up form. You will see the primary spot to put your child’s 4 digit Car Line Code number and under that you will see a 2nd Step "word" Code. The reason for this change is to ensure a safe pick up process. The word code verification is another layer similar to the two-step process you experience on other platforms when logging in.
