A note from Ms. Ballard
As we prepare for the holidays, students can begin exhibiting an increase in negative choices. Students and staff are working hard this last week to maintain good choices. Please check in with your child and encourage them to try their best each day. We have five days of instruction and we want to stay consistent with our good choices.
Last week students completed iReady testing. If your child was absent, we are completing makeups this week.
Thank you
Our kiddos did a great job at our Holiday Concert. Thank you to all staff and students for your hard work in making the concert a success. Special thank you to Mr. Grandstaff, Valley View Elementary for the risers, and The Boys and Girls Club of Martinsburg for supplying our kiddos with a hot meal before the concert.

Tips to Prepare for Test Week - Make up Testing Dec 16th~20th
Test Prep
- Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep before a test.
- Maintain a pleasant home environment and avoid unnecessary conflicts. Try to make the morning of the test a pleasant one.
- Ensure that your child is present during testing (children generally perform better when taking tests in their groups rather than at a make-up time).
- Get your child to school on time the day of the test.
- Wish your child good luck each morning of the test. Tell your child that he/she is special and that you believe in him/her!
- Remind your child the test is important. Encourage him/her to do his/her best.
- Remind your child to listen carefully to the instructions from the teacher and to read the directions and each question carefully.
- Encourage your child to stay focused on the test, even if other students finish early.

Holiday Break Suggestions
The info below contains recommendations to help your child be successful.
Here are some ways to help with learning over Christmas break:
- Read for fun: Encourage students to pick a book they enjoy and read it daily.
- Write thank-you notes: Make a list of people who have helped you and write them thank-you notes.
- Explore career paths: High school students can explore potential career paths through internships, job shadowing, or informational interviews.
- Make a snow globe: Children can design and add liquid to a snow globe to improve their STEAM literacy skills.
- Set short-term goals: Set short-term goals like homework assignments, reading comprehension, and note-taking.
- Maintain a routine: Keeping up a similar school routine can help prevent brain drain and keep students motivated.
- Balance learning and leisure: Make sure to balance structured learning activities with leisure time.
- Explore nature: Go sledding, skiing, snowboarding, or on a winter hike.
Attendance Matters

After School Program
Walkers
We understand that older siblings may need to walk our kiddos home. Please be sure your child's teacher is aware of this arrangement. We have a new form to be completed by parents/guardians of students that are walked home by siblings that are under 18 years of age. Once the teacher is made aware, we will send home the form.
