Hello Falcon Families!

This month, we are finishing up emotion regulation lessons in all of the classroom. Students are taught how to identify when they may need to calm down before making a decision and strategies that help regulate emotions. Intermediate students learned about their prefontal cortex (the part of the brain that helps make good decisions) and amygdala (the part of the brain that controls the fight, flight, or freeze response...emotions).

The kids came up with lots of great strategies like, deep breaths, positive self-talk, listening to music, and so many more! What is your favorite strategy?

Hope you have a wonderful May!

Take care,

Sam Winchell, M.Ed., NBCT-SC

Courage

What is courage and why does it matter?

COURAGE IS DISPLAYING INTEGRITY IN SPITE OF OBSTACLES AND CHALLENGES.

“Win or lose, we could only hold our heads up if we put forth our courageous best effort together every minute and never quit.” Kristine Meyer, Avista Foundation Executive Director and and PACE guest columnist for May, 2019.

“The mark of a good person is one that has the courage to do the right thing no matter the personal cost. I hope we will all have the courage to be kind, true, merciful, generous, and honest.” Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich, PACE guest columnist for May, 2018.
