Social Studies Corner- Mrs. Miller and Mr. Bisang

Mrs. Miller: Students have been learning about the first ever civilization- Mesopotamia.

They have been learning about the early years and their earliest problems in the Fertile Crescent. Students have had to make tough decisions on what the best solutions are and have done a great job when asked to share/present their thoughts and opinions.

From here, we will continue on to learn more about the religion, government, writing system, art and architecture, public work, cities, and jobs/social classes and continue to look for evidence to prove that these 8 features all existed.

Mr. Bisang's Social Studies: We are full speed ahead in the world of Ancient Civilizations. Students have learned and mastered the 8 Features of Civilization. We are now moving into The life of the Ancient Sumerian people. Students will get to experience first hand what it was like to live the life of a scribe. They will be creating clay tablets and learning about Cuneiform in the next coming weeks!

Please continue to have your child check Canvas when they are absent so that they can get caught up and not fall behind.

Need to connect to Canvas? Please keep reading!

CANVAS FOR PARENTS

As a school district, Jonathan Alder Local Schools will be utilizing the blended learning tool grades 5-12 called Canvas. Students will learn how to access this resource at school and it will support students both at school and away from school.

For those families beginning to already access Canvas, please know student schedules continue to be updated and an individual student’s schedule may not be reflected in Canvas until school begins. Please take a few moments and begin to learn about how to set yourself up for this resource. Parents should take time weekly with their child to review their performance and learn how they can be supported with their learning.

For information on how to get connected to your student on Canvas, please click on the word document below.

Birthday treats can be brought in for your 6th grader. For the classrooms convenience and to adequately prepare, please email the homeroom teacher or send a note AT LEAST 1 day in advance. Our schedules change often and we can't guarantee we will have time to do treats without notice. We also ask that you please stick to treats that are individually wrapped and can be easily distributed and cleaned up as our time in class is very valuable. Thank you!
