From the Principal's Desk

Dear Tigerville Families,

What a wonderful beginning to the 2026–2027 school year! Our halls are filled with the energy and excitement that make Tigerville such a special place. This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate 160 years of Tigerville Elementary! Established in 1866 as a one-room schoolhouse, Tigerville has a rich history and a strong connection to generations of families in our community. As we celebrate our past, we also look forward to the legacy we are creating for future generations of Tigers.

We are also proud to be part of Ridge Nation, connecting Tigerville with Mountain View Elementary, Skyland Elementary, Blue Ridge Middle School, and Blue Ridge High School. These direct school partnerships allow us to work together to support students through each transition and provide opportunities that prepare them for continued success. From elementary school through high school, we are committed to ensuring every student receives the very best. There is tremendous strength in saying, “We are Ridge Nation.” It means we celebrate one another, support one another, and work together to help every student thrive.

As we begin this special 160th year, I encourage our families to celebrate our history, take pride in our school, and look forward to all that is ahead. Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being such an important part of the Tigerville family.

Here’s to 160 years of Tigerville—and an even brighter future!

With Tiger Pride,

Amy Kern

Art Linesan

September will soon bring us a fresh breath of cooler weather as the end of summer slowly transitions into fall. All the sights of the leaves beginning to turn color, the smell of fresh picked apples, and the sounds of cheering on our favorite football teams becomes part of the joys of September! The art room is also a place of new adventures, sights and sounds. I’m excited to share some exciting plans for fun art experiences for the month of September!

Each class will participate in a special project to display in the hall way art banners to celebrate International Dot Day! This event celebrates the creativity, the bravery and courage it takes an individual to put themselves out there to make ART!! We will celebrate Dot Day at Tigerville on September 15th. Faculty and students can dress in dot day attire with a special t-shirt or dots of all kinds to make the celebration purposeful and fun! Students will do a dot day activity in the art room for their dot day display of creative dot designs. Check the school website for more details to come!

Also In the art room, students are beginning to work on their art project masterpieces for our art fundraiser through the company, Original Works! This company takes your child’s masterpieces and turns them into custom keepsakes. The purchase of these items gives you the opportunity to support your child, your school, and especially the art program. Look for more information coming later in September as to how you can order special products on line. These products may make excellent gifts for up coming holidays and special occasions. More information will be coming home soon on that special fundraiser that benefits the art department.

Counselor's Corner

Happy September! It’s been so wonderful seeing all of our students back in the building. In Guidance, our lessons focus on character education, resilience, career readiness, and personal safety (Erin’s Law)—and we're kicking off this month by exploring Growth Mindset! We’re learning how our brains actually grow stronger through neuroplasticity when we embrace challenges and put effort into hard things instead of giving up.

I’ve also included a few links below if you’d like to learn more about my role as your school counselor, share your thoughts through our TES Family Survey, or learn how you can participate in our Career Day. I’m looking forward to another great year and appreciate your partnership in supporting our Tigers!

Library Loop

Mark your calendars! Award-winning author and illustrator David Biedrzycki will be visiting our library on Friday, September 25th! Students can preorder his books. Watch for the order sheet. The dealine to preorder is September 11th.

Mr. Biedrzycki is the creative mind behind beloved books including the Breaking News series, Sumo Kitty, Sumo Pup, Invasion of the Unirocns, ARTificial Intelligence, and many more books. Known for his vibrant illustrations and funny stories that kids love, he'll be sharing his creative process, reading from his books, and answering questions about how he brings his imaginative characters to life.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet a real author and illustrator and get inspired about reading and writing. Students will learn how ideas turn into published books and discover what it takes to create the stories and pictures they enjoy. We can't wait to welcome Mr. Biedrzycki to our school!

Music Notes

Well, the year has gotten off to an amazing start. I was so happy to see all my sweet students again and was even more happy to meet so many new students. Music class has been very busy singing and even playing a few instruments already.

All students in grades 2-5 should now have a Quaver account for their musical journey this year. To log-in:

· Go to Class-link

· Click on the Apple Icon (educational apps)

· Quaver is in the Widget drawer.

That will automatically take the students to their Student Dashboard. The Dashboard has changed from last year, students no longer have an A+ circle to click on. Now the assignment tab is the first one and it has an A+ on it. Once there look for the lesson with the Friday date for the week (All lessons have the Friday date). Then progress through the slides to complete the lesson.

Also, Quaver has many activities for the students to explore singing, composing their own music, playing instruments, ear training, decorating their music room, or even playing games that will enhance their musical knowledge.

Chorus auditions went great and the list has been posted. Chorus will start Tuesday, Sept. 1st. Please make sure your child has turned in their permission slip in order to be part of the group. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays after school until 4:00pm with pick-up in the bus loop located at the back of the school. Please have your car tag hanging so we can get the kids to you are quickly as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call or email.

PTA Press

Welcome Back, Tigers!

We are so excited to be back to school and look forward to seeing students at our first school store of the year on 9/4/26. The store is open before school from 7:15-7:45 am. Our very first Stuff a Stuffie event will be on the evening of open house on 9/14/25. Students can create their very own Tigerville Tiger! Pre-registration was required, but we'll have a limited number of extra tigers available for anyone who missed the sign up. Our biggest fundraiser of the year, Raise Craze, also kicks off on 9/14/26. Acts of kindness will take our school and community by storm! More information will be coming home in red folders and will also be shared on social media. Stay in the loop by following Tigerville Elementary PTA on Facebook and Instagram and check out our website for membership and volunteer sign-ups. On 9/25/26 we hope you'll join us for movie night; it will be a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate students' hard work during Raise Craze. For those who have already joined PTA, we THANK you. Your PTA membership is critical to our ability to support students and staff throughout the school year. If you haven't joined yet, please consider becoming a member and helping us make a difference! Thank you for supporting our school and students!
