Summer Reading Initiative Summer Reading Initiative

Dear Neshaminy Elementary Families,

We sincerely appreciate your hard work and dedication to student learning this year. The summer months provide a well-deserved opportunity for fun and relaxation. However, extended time away from school can contribute to the “Summer Slide”, a decline in knowledge and academic skills that can impact long-term learning progress.

Each summer, the Neshaminy School District encourages students and families to read regularly over the summer to help combat the “Summer Slide” by providing a reading incentive for students to participate in, as well as a list of recommended book titles for summer reading. In early June, your child received an invitation to this year’s Summer Reading Canvas Course as well as a paper copy of a reading minutes tracker. Please have your child accept the Canvas Course invitation so you will be able to access reading resources all summer long. Within the Summer Reading Canvas Course, you will find the following: ● 2026 Elementary Summer Reading Interactive Book List ● 2026 Summer Reading Challenge and Directions ● Sora Tutorial Video & Login Directions (if you enter through the reading list links, begin at step 3) ● Elementary Summer Reading Overview Video ● Additional Summer Reading Resources

This year, we will continue to offer our Elementary Summer Reading List through the online eBook app, Sora, with eBooks available for grades K-4. Sora is just one resource available to students that gives access to hundreds of free books. Students may also read books of their own choosing that are not listed on the recommended reading list or offered through Sora. We encourage students to read at least 15 minutes per day. Your child should use the paper minutes tracker they receive in June to track their reading over the summer and return it to their new teacher during the first week of school. All students who return their completed minutes tracker will be invited to participate in a celebration of reading.

Click here to view frequently asked questions about our summer reading initiative. If you cannot find the answer to your question on the FAQ sheet, please email your building reading specialist(s) for support. We encourage you to support your child in reading throughout the summer to help prevent the “Summer Slide.”

Wishing you a safe, happy, and relaxing summer!

Student Accident Insurance Student Accident Insurance

This is a reminder to parents with a child or children attending school in our School District that we do not carry medical insurance on students but do provide parents with the opportunity to select a primary excess group insurance plan for students. Student accident insurance can help you eliminate the possibility of out-of-pocket expenses, since many group insurance policies no longer pay full hospital and medical expenses and may require a deductible or co-insurance.

A PDF describing the plans is attached. Please note, there are no paper applications. All applications/enrollments must be done online at:

https://www.aliverisk.com/StudentAccidentEnrollment

Enrollment opens on August 1, 2026

This insurance can be purchased anytime during the 2026-2027 school year, prior to an accident. Parents enrolling with more than one child must fill out an application for each child. Your completed online order is your proof of payment.

The district DOES NOT carry medical/accident insurance on students.

Core Creek Elementary uses a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system to help students learn and practice positive behaviors every day. Students are encouraged to be respectful, responsible, and safe.

Individual Reward- How Students Earn Recognition:

• Students earn stickers for showing respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors.

• Stickers are added to the classroom WOW Board to help the class work toward a shared reward.

• Positive behaviors include helping others, following directions, using kind words, and making safe choices.

Classroom Rewards:

When the WOW Board is filled, the entire class earns a reward such as: extra recess, game time, dance party, pajama day, lunch with the teacher,

Grade-Level Rewards:

After earning a classroom reward, classes add a piece to the grade-level pod cub puzzle. When the full grade-level puzzle is completed, the grade earns a special celebration!

Weekly PBIS Cubs of the Week

Each week, students who consistently model positive behavior are recognized as PBIS Cubs of the Week. Students may receive: office recognition, a treasure box prize, a photo display, and newsletter recognition.

Schoolwide Celebrations

When all grade levels complete their cub puzzles, the entire school earns a celebration such as: spirit day, dance party, assembly, or special event.

Neshaminy School District is pleased to offer a new efficient student absence reporting system called SafeArrival.

You can now report your child’s absence in advance of the official start of the school day using any of these three methods:

  • You can call 1-888-256-5072 to report an absence to the SafeArrival system.
  • While we strongly encourage parents and guardians to use SafeArrival, hand-delivered notes and phone calls to the Main Office will still be accepted for absences.

Please note that absences called into Main Offices will be marked “unexcused” until a written note is provided.

Your username and password are the same whether you use the mobile app or the website. You must register your account using the email address on file with Neshaminy.

To use the phone reporting option, you must use the phone number on file with Neshaminy. You can verify or modify your contact information by logging into the Home Access Center (HAC).
